Sorry it took so long to give you a answer to your problem. You will have to try to reset the Clock/Radio's microprocessor. To do this you must unplug the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source and remove the internal battery. Let the Clock/Radio set with out power for about 3 hours to completely drain the stored current and voltage stored in the Clock/Radio's microprocessor. After you have let the Clock/Radio set for about 3 hours,You can then reinsert the internal battery and plug in in to the A/c power source. The Clock/Radios functions should return to normal. If they do not you will have to change the internal battery and let the Clock/Radio set with out any power for about 3 hours. Put in the new battery (CR2430) and again plug it in to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio functions should return to normal. If you find you are still having a problem with the function of the Clock/Radio you can call the Emerson customer support. The telephone number for the Emerson customer support is 1-800-909-1240. call them between the hour of 8am-4:30pm CT. Give them the make and model number of your Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance with the problem. I hope this information helps you solve the problem. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!

After a power outage of approximately 45 minutes i have no display

Hello
There is a Lithium battery inside your clock to get a backup even the power is interrupted for a long time. This battery may last up to 3 years eventhough there is no power to the device. If this has gone weak, the backup fucntion will not be. so check this battery.
Just reset the device. It will make it work properly. To reset the clock after total memory loss; do the folloing.

[1] Connect the radio to your AC outlet and let the clock set itself.

[2] Depress the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons together. The display will change
from 'Time'to 'Year'

While holding the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons, press the SET + button
to set the display to the correct Year, then release the buttons
OK.

Directions for Resetting the Daylight Savings Time (DST) Start & End Dates on the Emerson Research Smartset Dual Alarm Clock Radio on CKS1850

Unfortunately, you can't reset the firmware of the clock for those built before Jan 2006; you can work-around the issue. You will need to change time zones for the few weeks between the current daylight savings start and end dates and the ones that were built into the clock. For details see: http://www.emersonradio.com/dst.htm ; click on the link for Group 1.

If the unit was built before Jan 2006 (the serial number will start with a value less than 6), switch the time zone to the next one further east on the second Sunday of March, then set it back to your correct time zone on the first Sunday of April. Repeat this on the last Sunday of October and the first Sunday of November. (If you are in the Eastern time zone (zone 2), set the switch to zone 1.)

If the unit was built between Jan 2006 and July 2006 (serial numbers that start 601 to 606), then you can change the start and end dates for DST. See: http://www.emersonradio.com/dst.htm then choose the Group 2 link. Press and hold the Alarm 1 button then press the Month/Date or Calendar button. After three seconds the unit will display the start date for daylight savings. Press and hold the Alarm 1 and Month/Date or Calendar buttons. When the display is flashng (within 5 seconds from the press and hold step), press the Down or Set button (depending on the SmartSet mode) three times until the display reads 3 and F2 (alternating with the date of that Sunday).

For the end date, press and hold Alarm 2 then press the Month/Date or Calendar button. Then press and hold Alarm 1 and the Month/Date or Calendar button. Again within 5 seconds, press the Up button or Set until the display shows 11 and F.

If the display stops flashing, repeat and set the new dates faster.

You'll have to repeat this is the battery is removed or replaced.

I hope this helps.

I am having problems setting the alarms on my Emerson Smart Set clock

Directions for Resetting the Daylight Savings Time (DST) Start & End Dates on the Emerson Research Smartset Dual Alarm Clock Radio (cks5055s):

  • This should work for all Smartsets, but I cannot make the guarantee (and no, I don't have any other directions, sorry)!
  • Adjusting the DST Start Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'start' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "4 F" (April and first week week) and "4. 1".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the DOWN (or "-") button 3 times, until the display is showing "3" (March) and the week as "F2". It should alternately flash "3 F2" and "3. 11".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself
  • Adjusting the DST End Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM2 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'end' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "10 L" (October and last week week) and "10. 28".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the UP (or "+") button 1 time, until the display is showing "11" (November) and the week as "F". It should alternately flash "11 F" and "11. 4".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself

One thing to note, if you ever have to change the lithium backup battery for the Smartset clocks, it will revert back to it's factory defaults and you'll have to go through his all over again.

I plugged in my Brookstone Smartset alarm clock and the wrong time came up. I tried to click on the time zone button to change and nothing happened. What to do?

Brookstone Clock Radio Model CKS5369
Time is set using the RH button on the Month/Date, Time, and Year buttons. If you are only setting time, press the Time button and hold it down while pressing the Tuning/Set buttons for a lower or higher time. If you hold the Tuning/Set button it will shift to a fast change or press and release for one number change. Be sure to note the AM or PM light to the left of the time display.

Wrong date on the radio.

RESETTING THE CLOCK AFTER A TOTAL MEMORY LOSS

If you do not change the built in lithium battery within a reasonable period of time after you see the ‘flashing’ LOW BATT. warning indicator, the lithium battery may become exhausted and will no longer be able to supply back up power to the SmartSet internal computer.

If the unit is disconnected from the AC outlet after the battery is exhausted, or if a power interruption occurs, the SmartSet memory will be lost and the clock will need to be reset when the power is restored. Be sure to install a fresh lithium battery before you reset the clock, otherwise the clock will need to be reset each time the power is interrupted.

If the lithium battery is exhausted and you experience an interruption in the AC power supply, the clock will reset itself to its initial default setting when the power is restored.

The initial default setting is “12:00 AM, Saturday, January 1
(1 1), 2005”.

If you notice that the time on your SmartSet clock radio is completely incorrect, and the day indicator is also wrong, press the MONTH/DATE button to see the date. If the date display is showing “1 1” (January 1 ), you probably experienced
a total memory loss. To reset the clock after a total memory loss, proceed as follows:

1.) Install a new CR2430 lithium battery in the battery compartment.

2.) Connect the radio to your AC outlet and let the clock set itself.

3.) Depress the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons together. The display will change from ‘time’ to ‘year’. While holding the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons, press the UP button to
set the display to the correct year, then release the buttons.

4.) Depress the MONTH/DATE button. The display will change from ‘time’ to 'month/date’ (mm/dd). While holding the MONTH/DATE button, press the UP button to set the display
to the correct month and date. The Day indicator will change automatically as you adjust the month/date settings. When the correct month and date appear on the display, release the buttons.

5.) Depress the TIME button and the UP button to set the display to the correct time. Be sure to confirm that you have set the time correctly to ‘AM’ or ‘PM’ by observing the AM indicator.

6.) After you set the time, reconfirm that the Day, and Month/Date displays are still correct. Make final adjustments if necessary.

The SmartSet clock memory is now reset and the new lithium battery will maintain it for the next 5 to 8 years, depending on the number and duration of the power outages you experience.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
After resetting the clock, don’t forget to reset your wake up times, and alarm mode settings, and sleep timer settings as well.
