Log into your router by opening your web browser software, for example Internet Explorer. Type in the address field the ip address of your router. The ip address depends on the manufacturer, but it should look something like this - 192.168.1.1 . A window should appear asking you for your user name and password. If the router is set to default settings, the user name should be ADMIN and the password should be ADMIN. Hit enter. This should bring you to your routers configuration window. I WANT OT PUT PASWORD - lynksisssid_thumb.jpgSSID screen.Go to your wireless tab / basic wireless settings. Enter a SSID (wireless network name). The SSID may be on a sticker on the router or you could make one up. Choose a wireless channel. Disable your SSID wireless broadcast. Save or apply changes.
WEP / WPA screen.Go to your wireless tab / wireless security. Choose enable. Choose either WEP or WPA encryption, the latter is a more secure choice. Choose 64 or 128 bit encryption, again the latter is a more secure choice. Enter a passphrase and write it down so you can enter it when it is called for when installing the wireless software on your wireless computer. A hexadecimal WEP/WPA key should be generated. Save or apply changes.cheers

Wi-fi pasword connot conect to wi-fi

Network security key
Some later model wireless routers have the Password (ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router and this information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adapters in your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit your requirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorized access.To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cable from your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computer and enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login and password and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and Encryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 to generate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to 63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born in January 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops can communicate with your wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

Hello, I have a RCA digital broadband model #DHG535-2 modem from comcast, i recently purchased a Linksys wireless-g broadband router model #WRT54G2V1 The problem I am having is connecting from my laptop...

If your trying to connect wirelessly with your laptop make sure that you have the following information of the router;
1. Wireless network name or SSID
2. Wireless security settings; WEP 64/128 bit ot WPA

If your not familiar with the settings then you may need to access the setup page of your wireless router. Hardwire the laptop to the router or if you have a main computer that is already connected with an ethernet cable, open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or any web browser you are currently using. On the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 (router's default IP), then you will receive a pop up asking for a username and a password, there is no username and for the password type "admin" then click the Wireless tab on the router and check the basic wireless settings, if your not comportable with the settings then change the following; SSID - use a name that is easy to remember, Channel - 1,6, 11 is ideal, then for the Wireless Security choose WPA Personal and enter a 8 digit WPA Passphrase(pasword), remember to click save settings every tab that yuo go to or else the settings will na take effect. Then check if the laptop will detect the signal of the router and when it prompts you for a password or network key, just enter the 8 digit code that you have configured earlier.

If you have further questions regarding the setup of the router just post a reply and I'll to give you a response if my sched will allow me.

Hope this will atleast provide you with some idea in setting the router properly for your laptop.

Regards,
