Need to know why a 97 mercury cougar won't start until cooling fan and fuel pump stop running

I have owned this car about 5 years and it has always had a delay in starting. For a while it usually took about 3-5 sec. but the problem has progressively worsened over time and more recently has taken as long as 15-20 min.(not sec.) for the cooling fan and fuel pump to shut off before starting. It is more of an intermittent thing as far as the delay time goes as sometimes it may take a few sec. to a few min. and other times may take a few min. to several min. and has actually drained the battery a few times while waiting to start.

I would think it's a problem with (CCRM) constant control relay module . This module has relay's inside that control the fuel pump , cooling fans , A/C compressor clutch , PCM - engine computer power relay . And thier are electronics involved , solid state circuity . Google CCRM

I i were you i would check the ignition. it sounds like you are only connecting some of the time. And yes it is very normal to hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key to the on position.

what is anti-theft light doing? It should come on solid for about 2 sec after you turn the key on then turn off. If it is flashing after this then it is not seeing the computer chip in the key and you have a PATS problem.

SOURCE: 1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.

My 1995 mercury cougar xr7 in the morning the fuel pump runs along time like a couple of minutes befor it shuts off so it will crank, but 5 hours later it cranks up fine.what is the problem?

Can you be more clear? The pump only runs for 2 seconds until the engine starts cranking and then it stops immediately when cranking stops.

I own a 97 mercury villager an just won't start

I have a 98 model.
Someone will have to figure out if you are dealing with a no spark or no fuel problem when it won't start.
Could be a long list of causes depending on which issue.

How can I tell if my fuel pump is bad on my 2002 mercury cougar?

If the car runs, the pump can be very loud if it is failing.
Fuel pressure will be low or zero if the car won't start.

How do I fix the problem of my cooling fan not turning off when the egnition isnt running for my 97 mercury cougar?

If the fan finally shuts down when after the motor is cool, then it is probably doing what it is supposed to.

Has it always done so?

If it hasn't always done so, or if it doesn't cut off, you could have a bad fan relay..... usually availablr at autozone or your local copy....
