Vizio VT470M 47 in. TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jun 19, 2012

Vizio VT470M no picture, no sound, no backlight. Power supply board looks good all voltages appear correct (24V, 5V, and 3.7V) and no "bulged" capacitors . When I unplug unit for two hours, the screen comes on normally backlight comes back up and picture is normal, but changing the channel causes it to go dead again. Bringing up menu with remote is really sluggish and when attempting factory reset, it goes black. Vizio light on the front of the TV comes on and off when pressing power button, but no picture. Can anyone tell me if this points to a power supply board problem or a main board problem?

www.shopjimmy.com or www.buyqual.com. I've used both with good success and both companies have provided great customer service.

Im having similar problem and with my limited knowledge of lcd tvs and the voltages ALL being good except the pwr on or sw on voltage from the main board to the power supply which tells it to switch everything on Im guessing that something is going wrong on the main board. In the condition where it freezes it (the power on V) which switches everything on i get varied voltages such as 2.5 or 3 or (the normal 5v) and then when nothing powers up (blank screen) i read 0v on pwr on voltage but all my other voltages are corect (24v to inverter, 12 v to main board, 5v, etc.) Im guessing from researching this is that there is in improper voltage somewhere in the main board circuit. I have been unable to find it so i may order another board and post back.

Mario, ill let u know what i did. After replacing every cap on mainboard and checking all fuses and checking all voltages good (when the tv did operate) i also checked all the voltage regulators and reflowed the solder on every chip i saw on the main board. Nothing worked. I have ordered a new main board and i searched all over only to find a few at VIZPARTS.COM for 140 with shipping but waiving the core charge of 50 if i send in the old one.

Wondering if you could post back and let me know if you solved this problem. Having the same issue.

The main board is the usual suspect with that model and symptom. Replacing the main board should solve the issue. You should be able to get one from www.tvcircuitboards.com just hit the contact us button from the website if you dont see it listed as they only list the more popular boards but they have alot that arent listed.

The 5vdc standby is working but not the 12 or 24v?
You need to find out if the power supply board is getting PS_ON signal from the main board to turn on the 12/24vdc power supply section.
Please read my guide to get some understanding first.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools, electronics knowledge, and know safety precaution then please read on:

SOURCE: Have a vizio 47" vo47lfhdtv10a,

Hi,

Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.

Hope this helpout in solving the problem...

Which part needs replacement on 65" Vizio LED TV?

There are a lot of things that could be causing the backlight issue you're seeing. First thing to look at is the 7 caps that sit next to the 24 volt backlight supply plug, those have been known to give issues but going by how this set has acted in the past I don't think this is your issue but check it first. If the caps look good measure the 24 volt supply that goes to the LED driver, make sure you see correct voltage there, next thing I'd look at is the LED driver board, be sure there aren't any burned spots on that board, next test is going to be the individual rails going to the LED strips and see if you see voltage there, if you don't replace the driver, if you do it has to be backlights but generally only some will fail like you were seeing to start with, with some dark areas on the screen

What's my next step in diagnosing my Vizio LCD TV picture issue?

Hi Tim,
If all the boards you replaced were good and working, the only thing remains is the panel if the backlights are on. Please see that the LVDS cable is carrying voltage to the Tcon board.
Good luck.

Turn on TV and picture and sound are great for about 60 seconds. Then the picture disappears but sound remains.

I would start with checking the power supply 12vdc output, make sure it is stable with no ripple. If the power supply checks out fine, I would then suspect the main board.

Power light but nothing else on vizio vt470m?

Power board is of course most likely problem here and I presume you found no puffed up caps on the board.

I have no picture but do have sound. VIZIO VO42L 42" screen

Hi ,
Power on the unit in the dark room then aim a bright flashlight directly to the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
