I have a 605 wifi and it sits in the charging platform. I cannot get it to turn on past the Archos titile page and then it seems to fade and fail like there is no power. It is only 8 months old. Is the battery dead already? the reset does nothing

I have an Archos 605 and my player will not turn on or off by the power button. I have to connect it to my laptop in order for it to work. Does anyone know what will solve this problem?

I have the same problem exactly. My Archos 605 160 lives in the docking station on top of my entertainment centre, which is always plugged in.
Yesterday I took it off to refresh the TV Program menue, and it would not turn on past the "Archos" screen, which flashes intermittently and then turned off. I hooked it up to my computer to see if the battery would charge, and after being on all night, no difference. It seems the battery has gone feet up.
New battery required? Doesn't look replaceable by the usert: looks like a "return to service dept" for this job.

Anyone have any advice?

Hi have you got your power supply plugged into the charging platform??, It would appear you have insufficient charge in the batteries on the 605.
If you have the USB lead plugged into the charging cradle this would normally ask you to select either charge or usb.
What does the CHG. light on top of the 605 do when you plug the unit into the cradle ?? (steady green-- charging. flashing green-- fully charged)

THe same thing happened to me instead of doing it directly on your archos do it on a computer it is much easier and takes less time.To this day i am still calling the Archos company trying to figure out why it is doing that.
