I have exactly the same situation as this with my 5700 watt 11 HP McCullough generator. I'm getting good gas to the plug but no spark. I have lost my manual and don't know how to obtain a new one. Any help?

it is self contain cross between an over size lawn mower and a mini car. check the battery first. use fresh gas. make sure the spark plug is good and tight. press the button and go.

Hi raw 28:

ther gas that was in the carb probably evaporated. you might tryt a little spray starter fluid in the spark plug hole or in the air intake of the carb, This might just get it running long enough to draw gas into the carb and get it self sustaining,

Good luck Loringh

I have an ACDELCO 6500 Watt Electric Start Generator. i bought it brand new about 1 year ago and it started up with no problems. Unfortunately I did not drain the gas after using it and it sat idle with...

Fuel will go stale if left for a long time. Drain and clean fuel tank and also drop float bowl on carburettor to remove any old fuel. If there is any sediment in the float bowl a carby clean could also be necessary.

Coleman 6200 won't work

Hi Judy,
Generators DO last a good long time for the money, but they have to be both used and maintained in order to keep working properly. What has most likely happened is that you didn't use the generator at all for a year, after it sat on your dealers shelf for a few months not being used, and so the tiny bit of magnetism it uses to "kickstart" the process of making electricity has worn down. The good news is that this is easy for a generator shop to repair, no parts involved and the minimum labor that they charge. They need to do something called flashing the field of the generator. What they can't do is get Coleman to pay for it since they aren't around anymore, go ahead try the 800 number (waits patiently).

Be nice to the poor generator techs at the shop.

Just won't start

check the spark plug after a failed attempt to start. If dry, then no fuel is entering engine.
Did you leave old fuel in carb? if so, your carb probably is dirty: old gasoline deposits varnish, gum, and you will need to dissassemble carb and clean it.

Generator will not generate electricity.

I assume it is a hand start genset. The most common problem if it has been sat for a while is rust on the ignition timing flywheel. If you take the pullcord housing off (recoil) then you will see a big flywheel with what can only be described as a big forked prong with a couple of wires on it. This flywheel should be stainless steel and rusts when sat around for a while without use. Its job is to complete the circuit to the spark plug every time the flywheel passes the forked prong at a given spot on the flywheel, the faster the wheel turns the faster the spark hence the engine runs quicker. Clean the rust off with a releasing agent (wd 40) hey presto!!!!!!!!!!!
