The ice maker in my Frigidaire model# FRS6HR4HW1 side by side refrigerator does not receive any water. If I remove the water line that goes up to the ice maker inlet, behind the freezer side, it is dry. I do have water coming out of the water dispenser. What is the most likely cause and how can i fix it?

Hello
To start with you should please follow these basic troubleshooting steps
look in the back at the bottom where the main water feed comes in, its hooked to a little plastic valve, and on the other side is the plastic line that goes to the ice maker in the back.
Also, look inside freezer, unscrew little door in the back in look into the coils, if they are covered in ice, its another problem in the lower front which you will need an appliance repairman to fix, doesnt cost much, get the right person, check inside freezer first before doing anything, if no ice on the coils, order the part, that is your problem.
Check the fill tube that runs into the icemaker if it is frozen shut... You need to remove that and thaw it out and then it should work...get a hair dryer and turn it onto the back of the refrigerator where the water goes into the icemaker. Be careful not to leave it very long for fear of melting the tube, just keep doing it every so often
If all these steps do not solve the problem then i suggest you check the thermostat and solenoid for damages.

Your refrigerator temperature should be between 35-40 degrees F, the freezer should be 0-8 degrees F. Both of the control settings should be in the middle, so if its on a scale of 1-9, 5 is middle, if its on a scale of A-J, E or F would be the middle, if its a temperature setting, 37 and 0 is normal setting.

Feel free straight away to reject this answer. I just want to comment that wate AND ice indoor AND the icemaker water power is controlled by the freezer door switch. If the switch has failed you will not get water or ice through the door. The switch has 3 wires on it. One is common, One lights the light DOOR OPEN and the other wire is power to the Ice maker, water in door and auger solenoid control. You release the switch from the cabinet by sliding a thin knife blade on one of the vertical sides. There is only one tab on one side. You have a 50 - 50 chance of seeing the tab first try. (WITH POWER OFF) Release the switch. Note the installed position of the wires and then read the door switch continuity. The circuit that reads continuity with the plunger depressed is the one that controls your water and ice.
Now just for grins.... you can make a test cord for the inlet water vavle solenoid out of an old extension cord. The solenoids are 115 VAC. You can power them by connecting pore to each solenoid AFTER you remove the connector individually. If you apply power and you ger water flow to the ice maker and the water in door then you most likely have a door switch problem. If you still have the problem of no water flow after powering each solenoid individually... I would go with your original thoughts of the problem being at the water filter housing connection. I just have not seen the housing as a problem unless there is something in the throat where you connect the filter and it forms a plug when you install the filter.

in back of your frig where the water line is connected is where the water goes through. shut ur water off to the frig. take off the water line unscrew the water filter there are i believe 2 or 4 screws inside it there is a small screen take it and see if there is some kind of blockage. if so the problem should be fixed once removed. if not get a bucket and turn the water back on with the line in the buck to see how the pressure comes out. i hope this helps
Testimonial: "I did what you said and the screen was filthy. I couldn't remove it but I cleaned it the best I could and the pressure seems to be stronger. Thanks"

Hello Jim czyryca - From what you are describing if the ice maker is not making ice but is dispensing water, sounds like the refrigerator has a frozen water line, faulty ice maker valve or bad component that sends power to the ice maker valve when needed. The ice maker cycles internally to call for water so I strongly suggest contacting a professional to move forward accurately to assist with the repairs.

Have you changed any water filters lately?
I had changed my filters about 6 months ago when I first noticed the problem, but to no avail. It didnt just slowly quit, it was all of a sudden.
