Hi. I have a Pavilion dv7 notebook that goes to sleep after a few minutes of disuse and won't wake up. Display is black and keyboard lights are on. The only way to get out of it is to force shut

SOURCE: Dell crashes and restarts upon sleep_suspend_hibernate

I'm not a big fan of using hibernate or standby, I've seen it cause too many problems, such as the one you're having. I shut my machine down when I'm done, or let it run if I'm coming back within a reasonable amount of time. I've also seen hibernation or standby create operating system errors or glitches, and premature hard drive failure. If the machine is working properly other than hibernation/standby you should shut the hibernation off and just shut the machine down when not in use. If you're getting this error when using the power button to turn off the computer, then the operating system has glitched or is corrupt and needs to be reistalled. If you need anymore help with this let me know.

SOURCE: My HP's screen goes black

When your computer reboots, go to the control panel > power options > go to the hibernate tab and turn off hibernation. Then go to the power settings and make sure to change the setting for closing the lid to "do nothing" then change the other settings such as when the computer sleeps if inactive to 30 minutes to an hour. Hibernation is causing the most problems I see with random shutdown etc. One other thing it might be also is overheating of the processor, make sure to get some compressed air and blow out the heatsink vents and grills on the base of the laptop. If these are insuccessful, there maybe the possibility that you have a Malware bug. Go here http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

download and run this and perfrom a quick scan, when it is finished, show results and delete anything it finds.

SOURCE: pavilion dv7 keeps shutting down

  • This may not fix your issue but its worth a try ...let me know how it goes
  • If the computer appears to shutdown and then attempt to restart without displaying an error message, do the following to disable the automatic restart on error setting.
    1. Click Start , right-click Computer , and then select Properties .
    2. Click Advanced system settings , grant permission to continue if prompted, and then click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section of the Advanced tab.
    4. Deselect the Automatically restart checkbox under System failure .
    5. Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery window, click OK again to close the System Properties window, and then close the Control Panel window.
    6. Restart the PC.
Disabling the automatic restart setting allows time to view the error message that displays on the screen. Contact the manufacturer of the program or device that is causing the error for specific information about the error message.

How do I remove/replace the keyboard from a HP Pavillion dv7-2277cl

    1. Remove 6 screws from the bottom of the case (as shown). These screws hold the accessory cover.

    2. Remove one screw securing the CD/DVD drive. Slide the CD/DVD drive to the left to disconnect it from the motherboard. Remove the CD/DVD drive.

    3. Remove all marked screws from the bottom of the notebook.
The yellow circled screws secure the keyboard cover, and the green one secures the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard.

    4. Turn the computer display-side up and open it as far as possible. Insert a guitar pick or small flat screwdriver between the keyboard cover and case and slowly move along the side.

    5. Lift the keyboard cover. Be careful, it's still connected to the motherboard. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector and disconnect the cable from the LED board. Remove the keyboard cover.

    6. Remove the four screws that secure the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard.

    7. Lift the rear edge of the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard until it rests at an angle. Slide the keyboard back to disengage the tabs on the front edge of the keyboard from the top cover and rest it on the display.

    8. Release the ZIF connector to which the keyboard cable is attached and disconnect the keyboard cable. Remove the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard.

I took my HP Pavilion dv7-1132nr on vacation with me and the monitor sporadically goes black. I thought it was in hibernation but I cannot get it to go on. I do a hard stop and after about six or seven...

This is most likely either an issue with the display itself or the cable that is inside the laptop chassis that connects the motherboard to the display. The cable can get pinched and unplugged by the screen being opened and closed (if it wasn't assembled properly). This can be about a $200 fix. If it is the display itself cutting out completely, it is typically over $350 to repair through HP. If there is a dark, washed out image that is barely visible, it means the backlight is going out and that is at least a $300 repair.

My HP w2007 has started clicking to Monitor Going to Sleep and then going blank. I have never known how to wake it up so I have to turn the whole computer off and restart. HELP

Hey there, Normally simply pressing a random key on your keyboard or moving your mouse should wake it up, if it doesn't though I think the easiest way to solve this is to simply turn off the sleep mode after x amount of time.
If you have windows 7, press the start button and type in "power options", go ahead and open power options and there you will be able to set the time it takes before your PC shuts down, and you can also set it to never.

If you still wish to use this feature but just want to be able to it's a bit tricky and it won't even work for all PCs but if the keyboard waking isn't working, then it's probably because your pc does have this feature. When your PC is off, boot it up again and enter the bios by pressing F10 i believe it is for HP. And somewhere you should be able to set which devices are allowed to wake up your computer, all devices are probably disabled now, so go ahead and enable the keyboard to wake up your computer. Now save and exit, and the next time your PC goes to sleep mode you should be able to wake it up by pressing a key on your keyboard.

I hope I was able to assist. If I was, please don't forget to rate this solution.

How do I wake up the monitor when it goes to sleep when not used for a short time.

slapping it around usually works. "just a joke!"

tapping a few keys on your keyboard and moving the mouse will usually wake the monitor from sleep mode.

Blank screen after monitor sleep just blue flashing light

    Hi,

First of all you can change the Power Settings in Control Panel. You can configure as you need. I mean after how much wait it should go for sleep n all.

If it takes 5 min. to wakeup that means you have so many applications running that system cannot manage or RAM is small.

The final solution just remove the Display drivers and reinstall it.

After removing please restart the system once to proceed further

    Ibook G4 14" 1.4mhz

On an Apple system, this is an indication that it thinks there is little or no battery left and goes to sleep to protect data loss. Your battery might be going bad (showing a full charge, but lasting for only a few minutes) or there may be a problem with your power supply.
