How do i set the asa on the pentax me

I assume that this is a film camera that has light meter.
It could be that the camera is set to a different film sensitivity than the actual film.
For example, the film is 400 ASA but the camera is set to 100 ASA.
The sensitivity rating of the film is written on the film box and on the film cartridge. Make sure you set the film ASA number on the camera too.

Actually, it's called "ISO" on a digital camera. "ASA" refers to film speed. Anyway, if there isn't a button marked ISO, then you should be able to find it in the camera menu.

How are the batteries? Shutter speeds from 1/2000 down to about 1/60 are mechanical, but slower speeds are electronically activated, and need a good battery. Generally, the best Pentax ever made. Mine is still serviceable after 30 years

On page 16 of the manual, it states that in addition to using DX film of ISO 100 to ISO 400:

1) Color negative film is recommended.
2) Non-DX film cannot be used - but then says if it is used, set the film to ISO 100.
3) ISO 400 film is recommended.

Page 25 and forward detail exposure Modes. This should be your next area of interest in the manual. If you are unable to to solve the problem at this point, there may be an issue with the aperture of the lens being stuck open - or the shutter remaining open for too long. Either way, it will probably need to be serviced professionally to get it working again. You might consider replacing this camera as repair costs may exceed the value of the camera.

Did you have the asa film speed set correctly? Thats usually the cause unless your battery isn;t quite right.

Yes, it's possible.
The flash sensor is calibrated for a 35mm optics & iso (asa).

You may have to "UP" your digital camera's iso sensitivity to 800 or so.

You will have to experiment with it at various settings.
Try using the "bracket" sewtting on the camera.
It takes three pictures when you press the shutter button; the three have different "values" of brightness.

The bracket setting is on the UP arrow, where you can choose "single frame", "continuous frame", bracket, etc.

In terms of ASA ratings, it would depend on whether the model has DX coding (which you would find as a set of gold pins in the bay where you put the film cassette.... If it has, then the asa range would be 50 - 1600 asa. If it hasn't, then Vivitar used to put a small selector on the baseplate of the camera to switch between 100 and 400 asa.

As a rule of thumb, I'd always use 400 asa film in this type of camera.... the extra two stops of speed far outweigh the loss of picture quality - especially with point and shoot zoom lenses.

(Note, I think you use a different sort of battery, but the controls and placings are all very similar between models).

If you need an original manual, then Oldtimer cameras will sell you an electronic download, or there is an original coming up on eBay in the USA in the next couple of days (with a camera - for spares). If you were really cheeky, you could ask the vendor to scan it in for you.

Say you're using ASA/ISO 100 film:
Photos come out overexposed and you were shooting in A or S or P modes.
Just set your ASA/ISO to 200: this will gives one stop less and images will be correct.
