My desktop uses a DSL internet connection but my lap top will not pick up the signal from it to connect even when I have it sitting right next to my desktop. If I actually unplug yellow connection cord from desktop and plug it into my laptop I can connect. Any suggestions? Rance

Is it a wireless router? If not then you will have to use the cord all the time.

Have you put in the pin number for it it should ask you when you try to connect.

Having your laptop sitting next to your desktop will not let your laptop connect to the DSL link.

You need what's called a Wireless Router. (assuming your laptop has a wireless adapter, if not you'll need a network cable for that.

1. Go to the store, buy a wireless router
2. install router in between your DSL modem and the computer.
3. Plug the WAN port into the DSL modem (cable is usually included with the router)
4. Plug the desktop into the back of one of the ports of the wireless router
5. Run the setup disk
6. For manual configuration of the router you can usually go to: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 depending on the brand)
7. If you don't know anything about networking, let the install disk do all the work.
8. Follow the instructions on what it tells you your configuration is for your wireless network.
9. Go to your laptop, apply said instructions.
10. ???
11. Profit.

I have two ParkerVision WR1500 4-port Wireless DSL/Cable Routers. The first one I have connected my Ethernet Cable from my modem to the WAN port. This is where I get my Internet Signal. My understanding...

You won't get internet connection that way because there is no connection between the first parkervision and the 2nd one.
Best way is use only one parkervision router. Connect WAN port to modem for internet, 1st lan port connect to your pc and 2nd lan port connect to 2nd pc in other room. 2nd way is, use only one parkervision. Connect WAN port to modem for internet, 1st lan port connect to your pc, setup wireless SSID and connect your 2nd pc to this router for internet wirelessly. Assuming your 2nd pc has wireless capability.

Why is my lap top not picking up a signal from my router

Check the connections on the back of your computer. Next, check the connections on the back of your router. Make sure that the router cord is not in a bind. Also if you have a phone line going to it, check that.

I just bought a dell laptop and the house hold has two desktops connected to ethernet cables to a dsl modem. the lap top we had connected wireless and now it wont connect unless we connect it to ethernet...

Turn on the wireless switch ON in the laptop if it has one. Check to make sure the wireless adapter appears in the Device Manager. Then check the wireless network connections on you computer - it should pick-up all surrounding wireless SSID's. Locate yours and enter the security keys for your modem when prompted. Make sure it is the correct number to get a connection. Also, check your modem settings from one of the desktop computers - there should be a web page for it by using your Internet browser, to verify that its' wireless transmitter is on.

My linksys WRT150N router won't recieve internet signal from my dsl modem. The router sends out a signal to my lap top, but no internet connection can be made.

Try connecting your laptop directly to the dsl modem to make sure that it is working correctly.
If the dsl modem is working correctly then:
1. Turn off the power on the router and dsl modem.
2. After about 2 minutes, turn on the dsl modem.
3. Wait another 2 minutes, then turn on the router.

Occasionally you need to do this to get them back in synch. If this doesn't work you may need to use the software utility to reconfigure the router.

Wireless issues with my Dell XPS/Dimension One desktop

Even if it's a new Dell, you may need to update either the drivers for the wireless card or the BIOS.

Also, verify which protocol your Dell is set to use (i.e. 802.11g, 802.11b, auto-select, etc.). Dell may have fixed to to a slower protocol for compatibility.

Cannot install D-Link router

1. check your wireless adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 just check the next address IP in your network.
4. after typing subnet IP will automatically set
