Toro 20624 mower runs rough

Runs rough with choke dies if i give it gas. has new gas, filter, plug, carb is clean. what do i do?

Remove float bowl from carb. Ensure gas flows with float hanging down. Ensure gas flow stops with float pushed up.. Remove float and meter needle. clean passage way were meter needle is inserted with a bread wrapper wire, with 1 in of plastic peeled off it, wire should be observed behind choke flap when fully inserted thru passage way. Replace float and meter needle. Clean float bowl. Observe float bowl screw, look to see if it has a hole thru it, if so clean with wire. Reinstall float bowl. Try to start.

I always replace the air filter if its a paper element, and even if its a foam element I replace it rather than clean it. That said, engine stumbling is rarely and air flow problem - but it could be, so having a new filter assures no air restrictions.

I would drop the carbuerator bowl. On the bottom of the carb, near where the fuel line comes into the engine, should be a nut. Removing this nut allows the bowl to drop off the carb. Some engines the bowl screws off, you will have to look at the bowl. Often the bowl has sediment or sludge buildup inside. Cleaning the bottom of the bowl can prevent that sludge/sediment from plugging the intake tube. Even on newer mower models this is a common problem, the gas line tubing interior breaks down and the inside of the tubing can start degrading - ending up in the bowl as sludge.

After cleaning the bowl, I would add one ounce of fuel line cleaner to a full tank of fuel and run the entire tank of fuel. This will clean any deposits or "varnish" from the interior carb parts. Doing this and the first step will assure your carb is clean and functioning.

If that doesn't help, then I would look at the spacing between the magneto and coil assembly. If you want to do that I'd like you to write down all the model numbers and serial numbers on the engine nameplate, that way I can give you specific directions.

Reset the Engine Idle if Required.****

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts and Accessories. Now Select the Model Tab. Select the OEM (MTD) and Enter the Model Numbers. Now Double Click on the Model in the Results Area.

This is called hunting, your fuel-air ratio is not right. Your carb. jets need cleaned

Yes you may need a carb kit. It is not good practice to by-pass the fuel filter. The orifice in the jet is very small.
But anyways, There Could still be a blockage inside the carb, a small leak at the manifold, or the jet is worn out.

Make sure the fuel jet is clean. Its easy to miss when cleaning the carb. Ive seen a lot of dirty fuel jets that once I clean them out run like new after.

Carb. needs to be rebuilt. If your choking the engine it to keep the alive and you've cleaned and replaced everything else, I would recommend carb. overhaul.

We have a briggs and stratton mower that has been in storage for 5 years with very few hours on it, it will start but dies shortly after.

needs to have carb cleaned out. most likely the main jet in the carb is plugged. symptoms include only running on choke and dies when choke is turned to run. or if you only have a primer bulb, it will only run for only a few seconds every time it is primed. if you are qualified to work on the carb, dont forget to start with fresh gas and possibly new fuel line and filter. R

Toro GTS 6.0 hp idles up and down

Excess air or not enough air. Replace air filter. Spray outside of carb to clean & ensure choke movement is smooth. Water in gas may cause this also. Flush out tank, refill with fresh gas, always use Stabile.

Rough idle on mower

Remove air cleaner and replace filter. Spray carb cleaner in choke at choke flapper. Remove carb float bowl and clean. check float bowl screw for hole thru it, clean out with thin wire if present, reattach bowl and screw, ensure gasket on top of bowl is good, Have mower model no. get new bowl gasket kit at mower repair store.

Did you check the filter? If the engine doesn't get air they it could cause it to die out like that. Also make sure that there isn't anything in the air line to the carb.

Did you check the gas line and make sure that you are getting enough fuel?

Toro recycler model number SR-21 S lawn mower wont start changed plug, filter, new gas. Mower ran for two lawn cuttings but seemed to overheat and choke out frequintly in high grass now it wont start at...

check your oil is it up to full, then I would check to see if you have compresson, pull your plug and roll over and feel with finger ,but don't touch spark plug wire or you will light up! next I would check for spark, then for fuel, make sure the carb is getting fuel,,,check your hoses and fuel cap and clean your carb and needle/seat and make sure gas will run through the fuel line. Also you could have sheared a flywheel key

the choke out you are talking about could of been a lean condition and smoked the eng rings

What is wrong with a Toro GTS5 that starts well but dies 5-10 seconds later. I have changed the spark plug, air filter and oil. New gas too. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have a Toro GPS5 600 lawnmower. Starts with Choke on, but dies if you move off choke. Also, runs fast and slow when blade engaged. I heard carb for this unit are no longer available. Help
