Ahh... I have that problem. The file may be zipped or unsupported. Either way, it's probably not going to work.

SOURCE: Archos 605 doesn't recognize my music files

from another forum on this site

Thanks and credit to eyez12 - the 2nd option below worked for me

try going to menu, settings, system, and then clicking the update ARCLibrary button, that was all it took for me.
if that doesn't work then go to repair and formatting tools and click "clear temp system files and cache"

SOURCE: Firmware upgrade results in arclibrary boot failure

I managed to overcome the problem by doing a factory reset. Unfortunately doing this initially created more problems in that on reboot the main screen appearance looked as it should but was almost inoperable. When the usb cable was connected to my pc the disc did appear on My Computer . The system folder was only 1MB. By good fortune I had copied and saved my Archos files before I carried out the factory reset. Copying the original system files ( about 20MB) back to my Archos returned normal behaviour. Further, two additional buttons appeared. One was a manual arclibrary update button and the other a USB setup button . I cannot get file transfer to operate under windows media player mode and Windows media player 11. No problem though. I use PC hard drive mode and carry out a manual arclibrary update. None of this was possible prior to the factory reset. I believe I would still be having serious problems had I not saved and restored my system files

SOURCE: Archos 704 Wifi - does not play AVI file until its full lentgh

I had the same issue.
The size of the AVI cannot exceed 1gb or the end of the movie will never play.

I had a movie that was 1,7gb. 2 hrs and 15 seconds.
The Archos recognized this as a 1.7gb file and 2:00:15 long.
As soon as the movie started, the time line bar at the bottom of the screen went from 2:00:15 to 1:10:25. Basically, it cut off the last 50 minutes of the movie.

I simply divide the movie into 1gb chunks.

I decrypt the DVD to the computer
Use Nero Recode to convert it to and MP4. Divide the movie into 1gb chunks and Maximize the Volume.
Use SUPER to convert it to an AVI / MPEG-4 / MP3.
Copy this to the Video folder of the Archos.

This is simply something that Archos does not want to admit is an issue. They want you to purchase the Cinema plugin.

SOURCE: My Archos 605 wifi will not accept mpeg4 files

Do not use windows media player. Go to my computer and then open the archos icon or in some cases words that have the name you named it or a605.Then go into the harddrive from there go to videos and drag and drop your videos into the folder inside the video folder or just drag and drop it. If it is on system settings Pc Hard Drive or any other setting other than windows mmedia device you have to manually update your abclibrary.

Downloaded music but will not play.

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting music files to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

Archos 20d vision mp3 player 4gb can put music from windows media on [cd] to mp3 but it as a question mark and there is no sound have ripped and synced and other music wont play continuess

Give up mate,
This MP3 player is total garbage, many MP3 just wont play and the Archos Service can\'t help.
Archos does not provide an firmware update for this device, even if is poorly working.
So, this product is useless as the Archos service.
Don\'t buy any Archos products or you will regret.

Well,i put my archos on to listen to music and it is saying warning no file when i have about 52 songs on there and when i go to the file on my pc it has a black box on my music file when i click on it,its...

Looks like file system error due to change of location or some system file missing.

In this case I'd suggest that you reset the player and remove all songs and then transfer them again to your MP3 player. It will work.

Hope this helps.
