I have a samsung 50" dlp, and the set will start up, and just a the picture shows up, the set shuts down. also I have three blinking lights on the front panel

some of these panels were mis-calibrated from the factory after not aging long enough. Let the TV run for atleast 2 hours and adjust the Vs and Vscan voltages. When it is blue in the left I have found generally the Vs is about 10 volts too high.

I worked on one of these for a few weeks. if you dont mind a little inconvenience you can remove the back lower cover and defeat the bulb door switch and it will run. the last one i had like this we could not find the problem even with samsung tech support. changed many parts in the mean time. its heat related but the lamp heat sensor in our case was not the problem.

The lamp is the only thing that will cause the picture to go darker. According to the model you have the lamp part number is BP96-01472A. The noise you hear could possibly be the color wheel itself. The way to tell is when you turn off the TV the lamp stays on for about 10 seconds longer. Once the lamp shuts off if that noise goes away then it is a bad color wheel. Any noises past that would be a fan. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...
