The first time I put the new toner in , the light was not blinking. When I printed the paper had a line along the edge. I had to take the toner and drum back out and I realized I had not returned the slider tab back to the home position. I did that, but now the error light will not go off.

This usually means your printer is out of paper or there is a paper jam somewhere.

Do not try to depress the green lever, since you need to remove the cartridge AND its base altogether. Just grab the front middle part of the assembly, pull it out slowly and steadily. You may need to apply extra force in doing so as it does take some effort to disengage the cartridge assemly from its seated position.
After the cartridge is removed, you may find some jamed paper inside. simply remove it and the printer should work again.
You may email me at [email protected] should you have further questions.
Reinstall the new drum unit, keeping the front cover open. Press OPTIONS. Press 1 when the display shows REPLACE DRUM? 1.YES 2.NO ACCEPTED. Close the front cover.
