I printed one color picture successfully, went to print the second one and the printer stopped. At first I got an error 200 code, which then changed to error code 510 (or 5100). I tried the reset button and the digital screen went black. The pritner is DEAD. I tried a different usb port and the computer is recognizing the device, but the printer will not turn on at all. What can I do?
Unplug the printer.
Restore power.
Hold down the power button for an unreasonably long time until it boots into maintenance mode.
Follow the prompts.
If nothing comes up call Canon.

Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.
