My TV started powering on and off when turning it on, the video sometimes started making crazy patterns and colors on the screen and sometimes would emit a high pitched "screeching" sound. Eventually it would start working normally. It got worse. Samsung sent out someone to replace the caps, but the guy told me it was a control board issue and to replace it would cost over $400. I bought a control board and installed it (I have some electronics exp). When I turned it on it stays on fine, but now only goes to a black screen. I've searched online for "reset" codes and nothing is working. Can anyone help?
The new board may be causing this--either defective or the set needs a reset of some type---get the board from Samsung or where?
I bought the board through Union Electronics Distributors, but when I called them they said they get thier boards from Samsung. He also said it might be the new board and to send it back and he'll send another...I was just hoping someone had the same issue and knew of another solution other than the board being messed up as well. I tried doing resets, but the screen will not do anything.
welcome to TV repair in 2012---it was much easier in 1966 when I began.

Most likely this set has an "integrated" inverter, as most samsungs do--and this DOES sound like an inverter problem. Make SURE thought, there are no more bad "10 volt" caps on the power supply...ALL of them need to be replaced no matter HOW they look.

Sir when replacing the bulb you should reset the lamp hour meter.
1. while on the standby mode press "mute" then the numbers 1,8 and 2 in succession, and press the power button.
2. wait until "loading factory" appears on your screen and the service menu is displayed with the lamp life hours. You will see a list of service options.
3. Scroll down to "option" and press "enter". next you will see "reset lamp" where you will press again the "enter" button. good day and best regards.
