Recording Hi I can not get it to record. I have pressed the record button but nothing happens. Please help. Thank you Nim

The preset mode changes whether you record analog or digital.

Assuming nothing is jamming or is bent, the weak eject is probably why the guy sold it to you. It can't hurt to take the cover off and watch what happens.

To play a microphone recording file, press the Menu button once, and then push the Menu button to the right once, and now you should read the message of VOICE appearing on the Display. Press the Menu button again, and then use the Menu button to select a desired microphone recording file by pushing the Menu button to the right or to the left. Once the desired microphone recording file is selected, press the "play/pause" button to start playing the file.

It won't damage the recording on your recorder it will mean you won't be able to view the disc on a different machine, possibly. The finalizing of a disc ensures the table of contents is recorded on the disc.
Try a better quality disc?

Have you tried resetting the camera? Hold down the power button and the red button simultaneously until the camera shuts off (takes about 10 seconds). Then, just press the power button again and the camera should turn back on. I had the same problem; when I pressed the red button to stop recording, the camera froze, and the red light remained on. I tried resetting it like this, and it seemed to work.

How to Record:
1. Make sure HOLD switch (on side of unit with pocket clip) is set to off position (slide to right is off - to left would be hold)
2. For best results set unit with mic(rophone) which is on top of unit toward sound source and press REC/STOP button (Top button on front of unit just below LCD display). Recording will begin and will be indicated on LCD display.
> Red Record LED will be on and the message number, recording time will be displayed on the LCD.
3. To stop recording, press REC/STOP button one time.
* If no other buttons are pressed within 1 minute at stop position, it will power off automatically.
4. Pause during recording by simply pressing MODE/PAUSE button- press button again to resume.

There is a Voice Operated System (VOS) Recording button on left side also. You can record with voice activation to conserve recording space but I have found that you lose a portion of the recorded sound as it activates and if there is no sound for a very few minutes the unit powers off and you will get nothing further recorded. I recomend just keeping VOS in off position.

5. To erase a recording: Select the message number you want to erase and while it is stopped (the message number will appear in LCD with the length of recording showing also)
Press and hold the ERASE button until the LCD begins blinking "ERASE" then, while it's blinking simply press the erase button again and the recording will be erased.

6. To play back a recorded message find your message by "toggling" the switch on the right side of the unit that says INDEX. That switch is the fast forward/reverse play etc. To Play simply push the switch in. This button/switch takes a little practice to use but the Play portion is straight forward. Use the front buttons to pause and stop during playback.

The fuzz/white noise is a little confusing and it seems to be saying that you are recording something vs trying to record incorrectly and getting nothing at all. Anyway, despite that, I would try going over your recording steps first.

First off make sure your Hi-Z input is not set to the Hi-Z or guitar setting. It is possible your that MicroKorg is overloading the input and distorting. You should however have heard that in the headphones too, so I'm not so sure that's the problem. The next thing to check is to make sure your input is assigned to the track you expect to be recording on. (Press the input's button to check this. The select/record button over the track should flash).

Next make sure your track is armed for recording before you press 'play+record' (Record button above the track should light steady when recording).

Do you have a remote? Some camcorders you have to hit the record pause button on the remote and then hit pause. It then begins recording. I hope this works for you.

The EDSR1600 will not go into manual recording mode (by pressing the REC button on the front panel) unless all of the automatic modes are disabled and the hard drive bays are firmly pressed in and locked.

Press the MENU button, select ALARM and turn everything in the OPeration column to OFF. Return to the MENU, select MOTION and also turn set all the OPerations to OFF. Return again to the main MENU and under RECORD, set ALARM RECORD OPERATION to OFF, PRE-ALARM RECORD OPERATION to OFF, and PERMANENT RECORD OPERATION to OFF.

Note: Turn the JOG wheel clockwise or counter-clockwise to select an option. Press the ENTER button to confirm the option and move to the next field. Press the MENU button to enter, or return to the main MENU. Press the MENU button twice to exit the main MENU.

To check if the round key locks on the front of the Hard Drive bay trays are locked, turn OFF the EDSR1600. Open (pull down) the left side front cover and gently pull up on the drive bay handles. If locked, the handles should not lift and the bays should not slide out. After your check, press the bays in firmly to ensure good seating of the Hard Drives.

The ESDR1600 should now go into manual RECord if the DVR is working properly. The red REC LED should also light each time a recording is being made. If the REC LED flashes, this means the DVR is recording a field or frame of video.

Try taking off the left black rubber stripping and see if the button underneath is lined up correctly. Perhaps take a look inside to see that all the contacts are good.
