Car keeps shutting off. It will run for a while than just totally shut off. Husband has changed the fuel pump. It ran for a while than shut off again. Missing a lot of time at work because of this problem. Please help.
Depending on which type of carburetta this car has, it may be that the rubber diaphram has a tiny pinprick of a hole in it. This will affect the vacumn and the fuel control. An easy way to test this is to allow the car to rest without the engine running for a few minutes, start the engine an increase the power whilst at a standstill and see how long it takes before the engine shuts down, then let it rest again for a few minutes, start the engine and let it run just on tick over, if it carries on running for a much longer period than before then you may have the answer.
Hope this helps Bomber667

yes your fuel pump can go suddenly w/ no warning. check your fuses in fuse box and fuel pump relay under the hood. look at owners manual to see where electric fuel shut off switch is to make sure that did not trip and needs to be reset. could possibly be plugged fuel filter but likley its the pump.
You will never have direct electricity to fuel pump only when running then once you shut off ignition that shuts engine off fuel pump to automatically shuts off.I would change the fuel pump sit in car turn key Th start position do not crank engine if you do not hear a grrr,,,grunt sound i would say fuel pump not functioning therefore fuel pump malfunction replace.
Replace the fuel pump relay switch under the drivers seat. And replace the fuel pump shut emergency fuel pump shut off switch. Should be located in rear of car in trunk area.
well that sounds like a relay. if your car is an automatic, double check than you replaced the ASD and fuel pump relays and not the trans control relay. if its not the relay, its probably the ECU(PCM).
