When calibrating the screen does not respond in the center?? Now what??

  • ingramfam Dec 26, 2008

I have the exact same problem. While calibrating the Leapster, the corners work but the center does not. Would it help to disassemble it or is it a lost cause?

Unit boots fine, when asked to enter usernames, can't do anything. I tried holding the 3 buttons simultaneously, didn't work. This is a Leapster2

My son's leapster is only days old and the screen stopped working

  • mande0234 Jan 14, 2009

I have the same problem. I've tried to calibrate however touching the screen with the stylus doesn't work anywhere other than the corners. For some games I've noticed that by waiting you may be able to bypass entering a name however that isn't always the case and then those games are useless. What can we do to correct this issue?

  • Thepopo Mar 07, 2009

Exactly the same issue - corners are OK, but cannot calibrate the center.

  • Anonymous Mar 19, 2009

I have the same touch screen problem. Tried both solutions suggested here (holding Home/Hint/B buttons and Hint button while powering on) to recalibrate. In both cases, touching the corners worked fine, but nothing happened when touching the stylus in the center. Is this a chronic problem with Leapster touch screens, or does it just wear out?

Excelent, Solution #2 works perfect on our Leapster 2...

    Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same problem, however when I go to the calibration option the screen says "starting touch calibration..." then the screen goes dark. The machine doesn't turn off, it just doesn't do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did both approaches and neither worked. The hint-power option just left a blank screen. The home-hint-b at sign up causes "touch the center of the target" to appear. The target never appears.

I have followed all the steps to fix the stylus but for some reaon a target or crosshairs do not appear.

I've tried the Home and A button several places... and it seems to work for others but not me :( I was about to give up then I found another way to reset the screen - Hope it works for you!

1. Unit must be OFF and NO cartridge
2. Hold down the HINT (?) button while turning the unit on
3. When Leapster menu screen appears, press the A button
4. Touch each of the cross hairs that appear with the stylus
5. Restart unit

The pen on my sons leapfrog leapster won't work

Push the "A" button to enter the calibration.
There will be a little plus sign. Touch it with the stylus and continue to touch the plus signs with the stylus until you return to the calibration screen.
Turn the Leapster off and then back on again without a cartridge.

The Leapster turns on and the sign in screen comes up but the touch screen does not work. Recalibrating does not work. Can't get past the sign in screen

How did you try recaibrating? I just fixed my son's Leapster 2 a few minutes ago. I read a couple different recalibration instructions and the one that works for the Leapster 2 is:
1-Hold down the (?) Hint button while turning on the system.
2-Keep holding it down until the Leapster menu shows up
3-Let it go and press the A button
4-Touch each crosshairs x with the pen tip
5-When it goes back to the menu screen, restart the unit

Pen not working on screen to use

Hi, have you tried to recalibrate the screen as in your instructions?
Make sure you have no game inserted
Press and hold down the 'on' button and 'hint' button (with questionmark on it) at same time until a menu appears on screen
Press A
Now touch all the little crosses with your pen that appear on the screen
switch leapster off and restart
if still not working, repeat above

Leapster screen not working

Apparantly, the Leapster screen issue is a common problem. While this suggestion is not ethical and since my game was near perfect condition, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a new one of the same color and then returned the broken one.
