First off you will need to back up your ps3 system. To do this, first insert a USB memory stick and then go to System Settings and then Backup, then select the USB memory stick. If the backup gives an error then your have too much information on the PS3 so grab the important things such as save data from the game folder.

You can go to saved data and then go to each saved file and press triangle and select copy. If the save data is grouped in folders then you can press square to ungroup the data and then its easier to copy as you will have to do it one by one. If you have any music files or video that is not saved anywhere else then you may want to back that up too.

After all the data is backed up then go to System Settings and select Restore PS3 System (There is also Restore Default Settings just above it but that didn't work for me.) The PS3 will ask to format the Hard Disk. This means everything will be gone (If the backup worked then you can restore it all later but if it did not then you will have to reconfigure your Playstation the way it was. Select Quick Format. The PS3 will restart after a few seconds and will start up the way it did when you first got it. After Configuring the initial setup, insert a game and check to see if it works. If it does then restore the backup if it worked or restore the game saves and other data, then set up the PS3 with your old settings.

If the game does not work then you are going to have to call sony while beside your PS3 and tell them you tried the Restore PS3 System option, have your Receipt from purchase at hand or else you will not be able to arrange an exchange under warranty.

Good luck.

My consoles cannot run the game disc

Most likely you need a new eye.My ps3 wasn't reading neither. At first it was reading everything but blu-ray.Then it wasn't reading anything.Little circle in corner be spinning and everything.I cleaned my eye I used cd cleaner didn't work.My system is out of warranty so had to get it fixed on own.So i opened it got a q-tip wiped it off with alcohol switched ends. With dry tip and dried the eye off. That will help you if your ps3 reads everything but blu-ray.But all it was really doing is telling me my eye was dying.Suddenly it read nothing so I invested in a new eye.Put it in myself now she's running like a champ.Hope this help but if your system still play dvd movies and ps2 games.Your blu-ray is acting up go by my steps first. Before destroying your ps3 or buying another might be a 50 dollar problem.Compared to sony 160 to send you another used 1.

PS3 wont play blue ray or PS3 game discs

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

My 60gb ps3 stopped reading all discs, ps3 games, ps2 games, blu ray movies and regular movies, help, please

Take a can of air and gently blow some into the drive. This will make sure there is not dust or dirt on the laser.

If this doesn't solve the problem then that means the drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

Not reading discs

I bet your blu-ray lens is going bad. If your PS3 is backwards compatible, try putting in a PS2 game or Standard-Def movie. If it loads/plays just fine...that narrows it down to the blu-ray lens/drive. This happened to me a few weeks ago.
*NOTE* WHATEVER you do, DO NOT send your PS3 to PSR1. They stole $109 from me. They DO NOT fix your PS3. They lie. I am spending my free time right now trying to help people save their money. THEY STEAL FROM GAMERS! SO WRONG!
