The 5d error on most front-load washers is a Suds error. This can be caused by using too much detergent, a non-high efficiency washer detergent, foreign objects in the pump filter, or a problem with the pump or water pressure switch.
First look in the window of the machine while it's running, do you see a lot of suds? If so, remove the clothing from the machine. Then run the washer while it's empty without additional detergent. You may need to do this a few times to rinse the excess detergent. Then try washing the removed clothes again without adding more detergent to clean them.
Next, open the washer and look for the pump filter. Remove any foreign objects. Look at the impeller and the pump and make sure that nothing is in that section of the washer.
To check if the pressure switch is sending faulty information to the main control of the washer, unplug the washer. Remove the top and find the pressure switch (probably on the left rear of the machine). Remove the hose from the bottom of the switch and blow into it. If the hose is clear, then the pressure switch should be replaced first.
If you add a comment with the model number of the HE2 Plus washer, I will be able to provide the parts diagram showing the pump and filter. I'll also be able to point to replacement parts. Most Kenmore appliance parts diagrams are available at searspartsdirect.com .
Hello, welcome to fixya. Based on your post I understand you have a "SD" error problem (looks like a 5D in the digital display) with a Kenmore washer, the error means an excessive drain time or excessive suds was detected as you may or may not already know. If you follow the link to my solution to this error designed specifically for "do-it-yourselfers" you should be fixed up in no time. (It's much quicker for me than pasting or retyping the complete solution several hundred times, that's how common this is)
Thank you for visiting fixya for your washer inquiry. Please take a moment to rate my assistance both here and on my tip link and leave a brief testimony. Regards, Macmarkus :)
Hi, the error code is not 5 D it is "S" as in Sierra d. The letters stand
for Slow Drain. I had this code and it was fixed in 5 minutes or less.
Simply remove the bottom panel from the front of the washer. In the
lower right hand corner, there is a tray to catch any items that may
slip past the boot on the door seal. Slide this tray out and clean it.
You will be amazed at what is in there...money, bobby pins, socks.
Re-assembe the washer and presto.
"F21" (AKA SD) is a Long (SLOW) Drain error (LD). If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:
1.First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2. 2.Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged. 3.Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running. 4.Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris. To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions
that is because there is a problem with your pump. you need to take the bottom panel off and untwist the pump filter if it has gone further you need to take the 3 screws out of the pump and clean the impeller. try cleaning the pump filter first though and let me know how it goes
I'm not by my work computer right now but take off the bottom of the washer (3screws) there should be a tech sheet in there somewhere (usually back of the panel you took off) that will tell you what that code means. I'm not sure if that's a slow drain code or not. Behind that panel is also the drain clean out. It simply screws out like a house one. See if there is anything stuck in there also.
