this thing happens to me all the time. but my first solution is the refresh the page. If nothing happens. try using other browser like firefox. this problem occurs when the page failed to load. hope this helps goodluck!

if your page is not loding up try restarting your computer if that dont work then try to find out if its your computer thats not letting your page load up right if its your computer call up dell or who every you are with and they can help you fix your computer

The only known cause to disable your facebook chat are if your computer is experiencing network problem or if the facebook page did not load properly.
If you have a very sluggish or poor connection, it is likely your facebook chat would not open up properly.
also, if you stopped the page from loading completely, it might not open too. In either case, all you have to do is to reload the page and wait for it to finish loading the second time.
On the other hand, if you are on a page where you would be asked to permit any application to access your facebook account, this can also stp your chat from opening.

Scan your computer for possible viruses.
As there maybe an internet bug that is preventing the page not to load properly.
And you can try it on another server like Google Chrome.
