I refill my cartridges myself but the printer says the ink level is low...I had the owners manual and recall there was a way to disable the level indicators so the printer will continue printing despite it thinking the ink is out...How do I do this? I did call HP but they don't approve of self refilling and want to charge $$ just for talking....I have refilled many times without problems but the newer cartridges appearantly have more computerized stuff in them that needs to be disabled for me to continue self refilling...The disabling has to do w/ pushing buttons on the machine rather than physically messing w/ the cartridge itself. Thanks! Andrew

hi,
as you are using a refilled cartridge, it is causing this problem. the thickness of ink in a hp genuine cartridge and a refilled cartridge varies. and also the refilled cartridge may make your printer faulty. so it is good to try with a new hp genuine ink cartridges.
thanks and regards

Close the top left pin at head contactor (1 pin only), with tape. Plug it in head carriage. Unplug it. Close to top rigtht with tape too. Plug the head. Unplug head. Remove all the tape cleanly. Plug again. See ink monitor.

It is not uncommon for a refilled HP ink cartridge to register as empty. If it was otherwise filled properly, it should yield the correct number of pages, but you may not be able to get the warning light to go out.
You can try tapping the cartridge on a hard surface. This only works sometimes. Be careful not to splash any ink.
I hope this helps.

The ink cartridge is most likely chipped & you would not be able to reset the ink level. Purchase an original or a good compatible cartridge. Refiling newer cartridges is not a good idea.
