My Ryobi weedeater engine keeps stalling out.

I was using my Ryobi one day and I flipped it upside down while it was running. It immediately stalled out and now I am unable to rev it up fully because it continues to stall out completely. What is wrong?

    I can crank my ryobi weedeater in choke and it will start. Then I put

    it on run and crank. It will start, then stop after a short time. Than it

    gets harder an harder to start. I have cleaned the carbeurator, checked

    the muffler for clogging. I replaced the fuel tank, because it was leaking.

    I will not run more than 15 or 20 seconds. I found a lot of dirt in the

    carb and blew out all ports with my compressor. Is ryobi mad a me

    or just dying?

    I have a Ryobi weedeater and it will start when I have the choke on but then when I try to take the choke off it stalls out. I have checked the muffler and everything else. What could this be?

    I have adjusted the H screw after setting the L screw to the correct idle setting. The machine only will run at idle. I've replaced the fuel filter and the lines. I flushed the careburetor with cleaner. What else is there to try?

    It worked! However I turned the (left) plastic screw, counter-clockwise, and I was able to flip the choke to "C"....now it runs like a champ.

    3 things that shut down ryobis.



    1.Fuel hose split/perished and or fuel filter broken off in tank,,simple fix.



    2. blocked exhaust by insects poke somthing in hole to clear out.



    3. carby diaphrams hard/ britle causing pump not to work and or not metering fuel..



    becarefull using compressed air on the carby too much pressure will destroy the check valve in body.



    As a starting point high and low mix screws set to 1 to 1.1/4 turn from just seated...

    My problem is that it will start, run and throttle up when laying flat but the min I pick it up to start using it and tilt the thing it starts bogging down and stops.

    If you have that problem with any motor brand weedeater and more tools like chainsaws , always first thing to prevent wasting time for search is to remove 2 nuts from the muffler and remove it and take a look at the piston in the exhaust hole of the cilinder for grooves on it then you know its over if it has grooves and only one broken piston ring could be possible i think the compression is too bad, give the H adjustment counterclockwise for max a 1/4 turn Only if it was never adjusted for different fuels like alkylat or gasoline 2stroke but the gaskets in the carburetor pump menbram if it will stopped or and bad starting , IF there is a bad premix gasoline used for long time a too lean H adjustment or gasoline instead of alkylat fuel also no good l&H adjustment leaking petrol hoses there is work to do but beware for grooves in first place.

Here was my solution:
I was having problems with my ryobi cs30 weedeater also. It would start up fine on full choke, but i could not give it more than half throttle or ever take the choke off or it would stall out. I replaced fuel mixture, spark plug, spark arrestor/exhaust, fuel lines, cleaned carb, and still nothing! I was considering getting a better machine. Then i decided to play with the carb adjustments.(on my cs-30, they are two screws on the carb that have a "L" and "H" next to them) I dont think you can get the specialty tool for adjusting the carb unless you are a repair tech, so i just took a Dremmel tool with the circular cut-off wheel to the head of the specialty screws and made them into "flat-head" screws so i could adjust them with a regular screwdriver (if you dont have a dremmel too, get one!) (As i was cutting into the head of the screws, i also cut into the casing protecting the head of the screws that was in the way, this does not cause any damage to the unit, that casing is only there to keep "un-certified" people from adjusting it for themselves.)
Now to the easy part: The "L" screw adjusts the idle fuel mixture and the "H" screw adjusts the full throttle fuel mixture. turning the screws clockwise make the machine run leaner (less fuel) and counter clockwise makes it run richer (more fuel).
-I started out by turning each screw 1/2 turn counter clockwise and started it up, then as it was idling, i started adjusting the "L" screw as i was moving the choke position to run, after a few full turns counter clockwise of the "L" screw, it was idling perfectly in the run position, then i did the same thing the the "H" screw while holding down the throttle and i got it to run perfectly in the run position. Now it is running way better than it ever has. I hope this helps everyone.

    That was what was thinking of trying nexted. My primer bublble was wore out . So I replaces it,now it will idle on full choke , but as soon as I open the choke to full run it stalls out but thanks gonna try that next.

    No dremel available, so I used a junior hacksaw to carefully cut slots through the housing and adjuster heads....was ready to spend over 100 quid on a new multi-tool...thanks for the info !

My weedeater started to kill while operating. The idle and run were fine. It kills like I hit the stop switch. I pull once and it starts right up then kills 30 seconds later. Any ideas on this.

My CS30 that I just bought worked fine the first time I used it. It sat in the shed for maybe 2 weeks and when I tried to start it I had the same problems as nimmote wrote about. I wanted to use his suggestion to adjust the H and L jets on the carb, but didn't want to dremel out the guard and screws (in case I needed to return it). I tried several things to try and fit around those sloted adjustment screws and found that a 3/8" copper Watts "All-Tube" Nut Sleeve & Insert (that can be found in any hardware stores plumbing section) was the best. You simply pull out the insert and tap it onto one of the screws. I first tapped it on the H screw using a small hammer and keep in mind that the first time you have to use enough force to mold the copper mold around the screw, but once it is on there it is easily removed and placed on the L screw. Just look inside the insert and you can see a notch where it has been recessed around the screw slot. You line that notch up with the slot on the other screw and it slides on by hand. You can then use needle nose pliers to adjust either screw as nimmote described.
Now my CS30 runs like a champ!
In my case I had to turn the L screw about 1/2 turn CW to reduce air flow at idle and the H screw a 1/4 turn CCW to let in more fuel at full throttle. My understanding is the L screw is a needle valve that controls how much air is allowed in the carb and the H screw is a needle valve that controls how much fuel is allowed in the carb. Anyways hope this helps someone, it is absurd that they are not sloted screws that the end user is allowed to adjust...

    Removed both screws L and H and use a hack saw to cut a slot for a slotted srew driver. Put the screws back in all the way and back off counter clock wise one and half turn, start it up till warm and make you adjustments. Good luck

Thanks for the advice, it worked. I had the identicle problem as describes (would start, but wouldn't idle and as soon as I gave it gas or moved into the B or C position it would die out)...The one thing I did differently was that I was able to slightly turn the L screw (white/clear casing) a half turn counter clockwise without removing it (there is a slot that a flat head will work on without removing the white casing and the screw will actually turn) and then I used a pair of plyers to pull off the red casing (H screw) completely as there is no way to turn the screw with a screwdriver with the casing on. Once I pulled the red casing off, I used a small flat head to also turn the H screw a half turn counter clockwise. Started it up and it idles well and runs well. Thanks for the advice. I would have had no idea otherwise.

You can thank the EPA for all of these mixture-limiting BS contrivances.
The first thing I do on any engine that comes in for repair is to remove all of the limiters, then the mixtures can be adjusted correctly, according to the conditions needed for proper operation, and not conditions mandated by the EPA.

Before you start touching the plastic covers on the fuel mixture screws make sure they are factory set and then move on to other fixes. These plastic set screws should be set that they touch one another flat faced. there is a cam type lobe on these plastic covers. Use needle nose pliers to turn them slightly towards each other (perpendicular) if you don't have the correct screwdriver.

I have a ryobi weed eater engine, it just wont start, i cleaned everything, it dropped before but i doubt thats the problem, i messed with the l and h screws a little but i dont know what to do, and answers? if so email me at Vmd41696@aol.com

    I dremeled both screws and just had to hold the trigger while turning each one a little at a time and it works great now! thanks all for the input.

    I took out the l and H adjusting screws and cut a slot with the hacksaw for a slotted screw driver. Now my Ryobi is runnning like new.When screwing screws back in, screw it all the way in, back off counter clockwise 1 1/2 turn on both screws, try starting, when it's starts adjust L screw first than the H with throttle open. good luck My weed eater is running like brand new.

My idle was set too high. I had all the same problems you all describe, turned the idle down until it nearly died then turned it up a quarter turn. Runs perfect and most of the time will start without choking it.

You can get the tool on ebay. There are several types. Most Ryobi's use the "pac-man" named such because of the shape of the head.

My Ryobi ry3002a weed trimmer won't idle. It shuts off as-soon-as I move the lever to run position. I disassemble and clean the carburetor but no luck. Any suggestion?


Run at 1/2 choke rev the engine & count to 10 showly. The engine should now be warm enough. If it still stalls, turn up the low idle screw.

Hi I have a 2002 Corolla with an apexi, when driving it can start to splutter a bit and I have to put my accelerator down fully just to maintain the revs, then as the car slows I have to change down a gear...


Most common problem is the IAC(Idle Air Control) valve.But if you say some times work I will suspect the throttle is clogged. Remove the Air hose,apply full throttle and hold, spray carburetor cleaner on clot using thin long nose player clean inside wall and throttle. don't spray directly inside because the carb cleaner is to aggressive for some of the gasket.

could be something floating around but did you fuel it one day and not the other try and run it with the gas cap off there is a vent on the cap that gets plugged

My Ryobi C430 stalls when I try to give it gas. It idles fine though.


remove the muffler and try it if ok with out it open the muffler and clean off the internal screen

Ryobi mitre saw - saw dust has collected inside base making it extremely hard to move the saw angle horizontally.


Flip the saw upside down ,and loosen the bolt on the bottom. Now blow the sawdust out.

On my LG vx8360 the inside display is upside down & mirrored. It just did that one day when I went to read a text. Went to Verizon they were compleatly useless


Hi,what causes upside down display on phones is when the cellphone your using has a flax problem.
A Flex is a thread like object that is located inside the phone. It is connecting both the upper side of the flips and the lower side of the flip phone...

The flex makes the cell phone screen to display...and when the flex is getting damaged, possible signs are upside down display.

To correct the upside down display, you will need to replace the flex inside the cell phone..

For assistance on how to replace the flex, you can go to an expert in phone repair for help..

Ryobi stalls after starting.


Yep had same problem it would run for about 20-30 sec and then just stall.
solution is the diaphragm on the side of the carby I swapped mine for the same one in my blower and it fixed the stalling problem.
The diaphragm operates the fuel into the carb. loose fuel lines can cause similar problem.

take the battery out of your phone with the power on. then try to turn it back on and see what happens. if still a problem take it to a sprint store. they can replace it.

in your menu there is a couple of options, one for use with mirror that flips the picture, another that flips the pic for mounting upside down. and another for flipping it upside down with mirror.
please select normal in this option as your prob just mounting it on a desk or table.
