My camaro will run only if i hold the key in the run position! Can someone help me please? I think i have narrowed it down to the Ignition Cylinder. But not sure if it's the Ignition Switch. It started out running fine then went to trouble starting. Then the other day I was driving and my car completely cut off while riding down the road. After atrying to get it to start back after about 5 min it started and ran fine for about 3min. Then it died again. So i tried again and it wouldnt turn ova but i could hear it grinding like it wants to start. After playing with it I figured out it would run if i continue to hold the key in the on postion. Any help would be most appreciated.
The place were the key goes is called the ignition cylinder. the ignition switch is located in the steering column.
Sounds like its the ignition switch.the grinding noise you hear is probably the starter still engaged. thanks jeff
the whole ignition switch the one where you put the key in there should be only 1 ignition switch.(where the key goes).i dont see how you could be confused and give such a low rating. i honestly thought i made myself clear when i said ignition switch .i could understand if i had given some off the wall answer (like it could be out of gas flat tire e.t.c)but this was a ligit answer your car should have only i place to put a key in it to start it(this is called the ignition switch)all cars do.unless someone has cobbled up something else on your car to get it to start other than the key.but thanks anyway jeff

So when you say the switch do you mean the acutal key cylinder or the switch in the neck of the wheel?
He!. Hughes im sorry if i offended you on this issue. I wanted to apologize if i offeneded you on this issue. Im new to this site and thought that i was going to have to rate you on every comment you made on this isssue. Im thankful for your andvice. I just needed clarification on the issue when searching for parts im finding 2 different items that shows up as an Ignition Switch. This wasnt anything intentional or malious against you. If you are willing to let me know what i have to do to rectify this i will. My bad again dude.
