Install google picassa3 (which is free software from google)....use this for all your pics...it's really easy to use and allows you to email pics instantly as it prepares the files for email (quickly).

Videos.....try and download JVC everio Power Cinema software which came originally with the camera - or source it online. I have a problem with mine at the moment, as it will write the video files to DVD but not the sound.

I am using Vista and Windows Media Player, no extra software needed for video, and the pictures load with no problem.

Your best bet it to look on the manufacturers website to find maybe software, drivers etc for your camcorder.
If you can then try googling your camcorder to find software etc else where.

You can try to search by model number as well. I've tried it in the past and know that JVC doesn't list software for all their cameras. You can contact them to get a new cd as well through that link.
