Start button on Jenn Air microwave quit working

We installed a used Jenn Air microwave that we thought was in good condition (we tested it out before the 3 hour job to install underneath the cabinet!) I was able to heat three items, each for no more than two minutes. On my fourth item, as i pressed the "start" button--nothing. Every other button works except "start". Does anyone know how to begin to fix this? thanks!

Sounds like two separate problems, but I want to get something clarified.

You said,"I was able to heat three items, each for no more than two minutes."
Did the microwave stop or shut off after some period of time before it was supposed to?

Failure to start when you press the Start pad is usually a bad door switch or door switch mount.

But please clarify so we can continue helping you, and please reply back with your full model number from the tag so we can help you.

SOURCE: Jenn-Air JMC7000 Microwave Stopped working

So it's dead? (No display, no inside lights, no beeps?)

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open. When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

SOURCE: How do I fix a Jenn-Air JMC7000 that does not heat up items?

The noise is coming from the high-voltage transformer being overloaded by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. Its only affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!

I always recommend that folks use the vent / hood fan anytime they're cooking with the stove.

Was it on at the time?

If not, moisture can certainly get into the works and cause problems or damage. If it dries out, it's fine but if not, it could cause damage.

Jennair combo micro wall oven 30" replace microwave?

When a microwave is dead, the most common causes are a blown fuse, or a blown thermostat / thermal cutout / TCO on the magnetron or on top of the oven cavity.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Accessing the oven cavity thermostat for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Jenn-Air (Whirlpool) owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Replace the fuse. Need a drawing or something to tell me how to get to the fuse. Cannot see how to do it easily, without removing it from the wall.

The fuse for this model is on the filter board on top of the internal cooling fan frame.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven (JMC8130DDS) here.

If the fuse tests good, then the oven cavity thermostat, magnetron thermostat, and control circuit board (which we repair) are other parts that can make the oven dead.

Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

My jenn-air microwave makes a LOUD humming noise

More than likely the power inverter board has been damaged and it would be best to stop using it immediately.

Jenn-air products are very good quality and quite expensive to replace. I would contact Jenn-air service and have a service tech dispatched to determine the exact problem and the cost to repair it. Jenn-air stands behind their product 100% and should be able to repair the unit for you.

Removing a built in Jenn-Air Microwave from it cabinet...

First of all, what are the symptoms? Please reply back and I'll be happy to share my thoughts.

Many parts can be accessed without removing the oven from the wall by just removing the control panel.

You need to be sure the cord is unplugged, then you remove the vent grille that runs across the top.

Then you'll see a screw holding the control panel in place. Once that screw is out, you can lift out and out carefully to separate the control panel form the chassis.

If you pull any wires off the control panel, mark and/or photograph them first to be sure you get them ALL back in the right place.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

Before you start, we have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site. You'll find a link to our site in our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

While they don't have their installation instructions online, the owner's manual is online here.
