Black ink print failure after cartridge replaced

Printer was working immediately prior to replacing print cartridge, although low on black ink to point where warning stated other colors would be combined to print document(this occured once and did not continue to use printer in this condition - concerned about air getting in port). Changed to new cartridge and recognized black cartridge as full, but does not print black ink and does not test black ink, despite multiple head cleanings and replacing with another new ink cartridge. All previous replacement cartridges have been Epson or Lenox for 2 year life of printer (no cheap ink used) and no previous problems to date.

Very helpful advice. No luck so far with the less invasive suggestions. I'm moving up to use of the syringe. Are we talking about injecting 0.1-0.2ml or more? If this leaks out of the nozzle, how best to keep from making a mess and contaminating subsequent printing jobs with residual ink? It seems that if professional repair is not cost effective, then I have nothing to lose and everything to gain by being as aggressive/risky as necessary to fix this problem. So if you have any other suggestions I would be willing to hear them. Thanks.

The Edge, -Clean the electrical contacts on the printer where the cartridge connects with alcohol. After it dries clean the same contacts with a regular pink, non-abrasive pencil eraser making sure you remove all the debris when done. -Its also possible there is an air bubble preventing the flow of ink. You can try inserting a full cartridge of ink in the printer and letting it sit overnight then running a nozzle clean job or two. Another alternative if you have a syringe you may want to try gently forcing ink into it. If you?re really desperate you can try drilling a small hole into the cartridge to give gravity feeding a hand. BE WARNED the air hole will let ink flow pretty well and you run the chance of making a mess. Before you pull the cartridge out of the printer make sure you cover the hole with tape so the ink doesn?t make even more mess. -Check the cartridge alignment making sure the contacts are mating to the printer. -If it still doesn?t work I would try cleaning your nozzles. Even though I doubt you have clogged nozzles its worth a try because of the following: If you search the Internet you?ll find that this specific model is know for failing to print some or all colors after about 1 ½ to 2 years of use, even with Epson inks. Most of the posts I?ve seen blame it on clogged nozzles but I suspect a good number of them, like yours, have another explanation for their failure. Ink jet printers use resistors to create heat to create a bubble in the ink to eject it out of the nozzle (Bubble jet) or in the case of Epson, vibrating crystals push ink into and out of the nozzles (piezoelectric). We?ve already cleaned the electrical contacts and cleaned the nozzles so what remain are defective nozzles, short between the nozzle and the controller board or a defective controller board. Since the printer is only worth 1 or 2 hundred dollars repairs at a shop or buying these repair parts can easily exceed ½ its cost. Hope something here works for you, I just recently had to toss a great printer too. Let us know what happens and please don?t forget to rate the posting.

I've had sucess in the past using wadded up paper towles to absorb excess ink. As far as how much to inject goes it shouldn't take too much, its either going to work or not. I did this once but I was able to remove the print head so it didn't make any difference how much leaked out to me.

I recently replaced the black ink cartridge and do not wish to use the colour cartridge. However, the printer still keeps flashing the critically low level of my colour cartridge and does not print. How can...

Many printers always use a small amount of each color even if you are only printing black, to prevent the color nozzles from drying out and getting clogged (and, it forces you to buy more ink, which is a profit center for printer manufacturers)

For this reason, some printers will not work if ANY of the cartridges are empty.

It should work again if you replace the color cartridge. Make sure to select "black ink only" or the option to print in black and white or grayscale to minimize color ink usage. It may still use a little, but that's OK.

I need to reset my ink levels on my lexmark s305 after refilling cartridges

I managed to successfully refill the black cartridge for the S305; I did it when the printer warned of 'very low black ink' (although it didn't print very well - i.e. grey - until the following day). It kept displaying 'low ink' but printed fine for a few months.
I think if you can catch it before the printer decides it needs an 'official' refill or replacement then it works (although when exactly this is is a mystery, as it always displays 'low' for black ink).
Yesterday, the printer decided it wouldn't print until the cartridge was changed.
Refilled; waited for half a day;replaced several times; turned the printer on and off 5 times with no cartridge in (to see if it would wipe the printer's memory of the cartridge); and spent about 4 hours online trying to find a solution.
If it starts working tomorrow, I'll let you know. I don't want to mess about with software that may reset the ink levels. (If anyone finds some that works, please post!)
It looks like Lexmark have ensured they can pile in the cash with their original cartridges.
I've heard about generic cartridges that are chipped to avoid the above problem - I'll visit my local refill store soon.
There must be a way round this!
Cheers, Fronter

Want to print only in black

search through your manual for grayscale options... this is usually code word for black and white...

"No Black Ink Cartridge" after a new cartridge has been inserted

It sounds like the actual ink sensor has failed. You can check if it has a print head cleaning routine in the software on the computer. Most likely the actual ink sensor has died though, I've seen this many times. Call Brother to confirm, or maybe if it's still under any kind of warranty: 877-276-8437

HP 932 RED LIGHT STAYS ON

The light you describe is the ink light.
When that light is blinking, try this.

Turn on the printer. Open the front cover and look at the carrier for the ink cartridges. There is a white arrow right above the latch for the color cartridge.
Once the carrier stops moving, the white arrow should be pointing to a symbol which represents the problem (the reason the light is blinking.) Examples are low ink black, low ink color, sick black ( replace ) , sick color ( replace ).

IF you have just replaced your black cartridge, you might need to replace your color cartridge too.
This printer will not work without both ink cartridges installed and full.
You cant print with a full black and an empty color cartridge unfortunately, even if you only want to print black.

Hope this helps!

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking BEWARE SPAM NUMBER 1-800-532-4187

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
