I have a set of walkie talkies that I left with rechargeable batteries in. I didn't use them for about a year. The batteries ran down but there is no corrosion or any signs of deterioration. The batteries take a charge but the walkie talkies wont turn on. Is there anything I can do to get them to work?

Replace the batteries. they will not take a full charge once they are that depleted.

Your LXT350 is equipped for using an optional rechargeable NiMH battery pack which can be recharged by inserting the AC adapter into the radio charge jack, or with the optional desktop charger.
I would make sure the radio is off, then insert the charger. Charge only for the prescribed time (no more/no less) and remove from the charger.
Charge time is initially 24 hours. Charge time is about 12 hours thereafter. For maximum battery life, it is recommend charging the battery pack when the low battery icon comes on. Remove the radios from the charger when the charge time expires.

This is more for "mshtexas" than the OP but I'm sure there may be others out there wondering the same thing. The power cord that comes with this unit has a 9.0v output at 200mA with the center pin being positive

It's really hard to tell what's going on without more information, but it sounds like your two problems are really one; that is, the shutdown is due to low battery power. If you have a voltmeter you can check the charger output and the battery voltage when fully charged. My bet is that the batteries are no good, so they are not taking a full charge and are discharging rapidly. Try new batteries in one of the radios and see if that solves the problem.

We had the same problem (except ours sat for about 10 years without use). They wouldn't recharge in the walkie talkies, but we removed the batteries and put them into a NiCad battery recharger and much to our surprise and delight, they charged up without a problem. Good luck.
