I have insert the usb and run the software, This software format my usb fullly and it is functioning well now. then I changed my O/s to vista but before formatting of my pc i forgot to save the software and it was formatted too. now my 1GB datatraveler is working well but my 32GB data traveler is creating problem. When i tried to format it it shows a message

"Windows was unable to format the disk."

Now i surf the net again but i forgot the site link where the software is available to download and also not found that solution which shows the link of that software. i can't understand how can i format my pendrive.

Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 64 GB USB - file system corrupted - need to work on windows XP- Upon formatting the pen drive It shows that it has become a raw drive - wat is the file format for the USB to work...

Theoretically, you can't format a more than 32 GB drive with FAT/FAT32 file system. In your case you have to choose the NTFS file system to format your 64 GB USB flash drive. However, if you really need to format it with FAT32, you got to use the command line or a third party tool. Hope this is going to help you.

How to format a pen drive?

I know about this problem and the solution.

First, you should know your pen drive is infected with a virus. You can't usually repair it, you'lll just have to format it, and I'm getting to that.

Now, Before you format the pen drive, you might want to preserve some files in the drive?

Instead of trying to view the pen drive by double clicking or right click=>open TYPE the ASSOCIATED DRIVE LETTER at the RUN DIALOG BOX (start=>run)

Eg:
If your pen drive is assigned to drive E:
Start=>Run
Type "E:" (without quotes) and hit enter.
It should open.

Now you will probably see some weired .exe file, probably named fun.exe. That's the virus. You just cant delete it. BUT you can copy the rest of the imprtant files to your hard drive.

TO FORMAT
Start=>Run
type "cmd" (without qoutes) and hit enter
type "format/x E:" (without qoutes and mind your spellings and spacing. REPLACE "E:" with the associated drive letter of the pen drive)
Hit enter.

Hope my info fixes your problem,
Thanx for using fixya.
