Have you scanned the drive for file system errors? (Right click the drive icon in my computer, select "Properties" and go to the "Tools" tab to scan the file system)

Windows likes to play with drive letter assignments, if you've plugged in any other U.S.B. devices like a phone, or p.d.a. Windows may have forgotten what the hard drive's letter assignment was. Try this:

  1. Log on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.

Note If you do not see Performance and Maintenance, go to step 3. Performance and Maintenance appears in Control Panel only if you use Category view. If you use Classic view, Performance and Maintenance does not appear.
  3. Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management in the left pane.
  4. Right-click the drive, the partition, the logical drive, or the volume that you want to assign a drive letter to, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, and then either accept the default drive letter or click the drive letter that you want to use.
  7. Click OK.
I'm pretty sure this will fix the problem. If not try us again at Fixya.com

Shouldn't you be able to just drop and drag files directly into the hard drive? every time i try i get a message saying "Brian", thats the name i put to the hard drive, cannot be modified. I have...

You may need to check the permissions on the drive. To do this highlite the drive on the desktop. Then do a Get Info by selecting it under the File menu in the Finder, or Command - I. The Get Info window will then open. Near the bottom you will find out who has permissions. Make sure that you have the box checked "Ignore ownership on this volume". If the drive says you have read-only permissions, you can change this by clicking on the lock at the bottom, then enter the admin name and password. You can then change the permissions to Read and write. I hope this helps.

You have to partition your Verbatim Drive to work on a Mac. Go to Macintosh HD / Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. When in Disk Utility select the 232.9 GB SAMSUNG HM250HI Media to the left.

Different operating systems use different file systems. Normally they can't use other ones than their own. To write on NTFS file system (Windows) a Mac needs a special program - get it from here http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/26288

Doesnt work on my mac

The two leads are

1. for the power of the hard drive (it takes power from your Mac to turn round
2. the other is for the data

so DONT worry.

1. I guess you will need to format the drive before you actually get to use it.
2. Try right clicking on the drive and see if there is a format option
3. Format the hard drive and now you should be able to mount it and put data onto it.

Hope that this fixya was of help to you :)

Best Regards
