Neff dishwasher continuously attempting to pump out water

Hi, Last night I cam home to find the kitchen sink full of dirty water. When I opened the dishwasher door I noticed that the same water was in the bottom of the dishwasher (and the dishwasher was switched off no one in the house remembers switching off??). The kitchen sink and dishwasher share the same waste pipe network and so I deduced that the pipes must be blocked. After about an hour I found that one the pipes was blocked with cooking oil that had solidified on contact with cold water. After cleaning the pipes and putting everything back together I ran the sink tap and the water now drained way fine so job done! I then switched on the dishwasher and it started pumping so I thought that was it, all fixed. However, after about twenty minutes I notice that the dishwasher was still pumping. When I opened the door I found no water inside but the pump was still pumping?? I tried switching the unit on and off, resetting it and I tried diffferent program settings. It still tries to pump water out?? Any ideas?? Thanks.

I have just encountered the same problem on my S5433 XO GB/13. Did you manage to get a solution.

  • Anonymous Feb 02, 2007

I carried on looking for a solution and found a site www.reviewcentre.com where they were discussing the same problem.
I did as this site described and it solved the problem. It was a post by a Neff/Bosch Service Engineer.
The problem is caused by water overflowing into the base of the machine after a pump malfunction and tripping a float switch which tells the pump to operate. This water lies below the pump so it will be unable to remove it.?????
    The solution is as follows.
The Drainage pump will first have to be made operational by clearing the pump vanes or unblocking the outlet pipe so that when water is poured into the dishwasher it pumps it out.
To access the pump, first remove the filter and then the stainless cover. This will provide access to the T20 Torx screw, which holds the cover over the pump vanes. See page 38 of the Neff Instuctions. Remove this cover and clear the blockage if any. If no problem with the pump clear the outlet hose.
The water will still be in the base of the machine causing the problem.
Remove the cover from the front of the dishwasher.
Remove the steel cover at the bottom, it should be held on with 2 T20 Torx screws.
This is a bit fiddly but it comes off fairly easily.
If you look on the left hand side in the bottom of the base you will see the float switch.
If you push this down gently you will see it operate in the water. Please ensure you have switched the power off or removed the plug from the socket as there are a lot of wires in this area.
The best way to remvove the water from the base is by using a dishcloth and ringing it out. This is a bit drawn out but it works. Paper towels might disintegrate and be left behind causing more problems.
After draining out the water the switch will no longer be made and the machine will operate correctly.
I hope this helps as it helped me.

Had the same probelm. Left the machine idle for a few days. By the time I found this solution, the water must have evapourated. The machine worked when I tried it. Underfloor heating probably helped evapouration. The original pump obstruction was caused by a piece or broken glass, so caution recommended when cleaning out the pump.

Neff dishwasher tap light flashing -

If your Neff dishwasher is showing a flashing tap light, it typically indicates a water supply issue. Here's a short guide to address the problem:
  1. Check Water Supply: Ensure the water supply valve under the sink is fully open.
  2. Filter & Hose: Examine the inlet hose for kinks or bends and the filter at the connection point for blockages.
  3. Water Pressure: Low water pressure can also trigger this warning. Verify that your home's water pressure is adequate.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, there might be a more complex problem, such as a faulty water inlet valve or a problem with the dishwasher's control system. In such cases, consulting the user manual or contacting Neff customer support for further assistance would be advisable.

Dishawasher floods

Two possible reasons come to my mind. First, and simplest, I've seen Dishwasher installations that did not use a air gap in the Dishwasher drain (usually a dome device mounted on the back of the kitchen sink or sometimes mounted in the wall just above the sink in older homes). When an air gap is not used, it is imperative that a high loop is formed in the dishwasher drain line, and tied up in that position (usually under the kitchen sink,as high as possible- the underside of the sink faucet usually works, or a screw into the bracing under the counter top to wrap a soft wire looped around the drain hose to hold it there permanently). If you do not use a air gap, or have a high loop in the dishwasher drain hose, then likely you are getting a back flow of dirty water into your dishwasher from the drain plumbing to which the dishwasher is connected (likely the garbage disposer or the tail from the sink basin.) So every time you either run the disposer (if you have one), or drain the sink basin, some of that contaminated, dirty water may be siphoning back into the dishwasher There are some exceptions, as some dishwashers including some whirlpool models, have a anti siphon ball device built into the drain pump housing.( You should also check your local plumbing code. They may require an air gap in your dishwasher drain line regardless of anything else.) Secondly, the water inlet valve may be sticking open, or not completely seating closed after the fill cycle. This could be indicated by a very gradual accumulation of clean, clear water in the bottom of the tub, to the point of completely filling the bottom of the tub to the point of overflow at the dam at the front bottom of the tub. The speed of overflow will be determined by how poorly the diaphragm inside the valve is seating. If you suspect this may be the problem, pull the rubber hose off the OUTLET end of the valve, with the machine in the OFF position or better yet UNPLUGGED (water and electricity do not mix, and can KILL you) ,and see that there is not a continuous flow or trickle of water. If there is any flow of water, in this scenario, then you have a bad inlet water valve, and the valve should be replaced rather than attempting to repair. Be sure to reconnect the rubber hose to the inlet valve before plugging the machine back in and attempting to run the machine, or you will have a high pressure flood, and likely electrical shorting under the machine which could likely ruin the machine.

Water staying in machine after wash completed

Hello. Generally, the problem is debris in the drain pump or in the drain line which goes from the base of the machine up into the drain under the kitchen sink. Begin by removing the lower panel on the front of the dishwasher and disassembling the drain line there. Be prepared for about 3 cups of water. Then REmove the pump and visually examine it on the inside. If you don't find the debris there check the entire drain tube, and the connection area under the sink. J.

Dishwasher pump keeps running

This is caused by a water leak into the base pan,it will trigger the anti flood and the machine will continously drain out even with the door open, you need to establish what is leaking,if you leave the appliance standing for a few days it will start again as the water will evaporate however if the fault returns you will definetly have aleak on the appliance which will require further investigation.

FDW60 has standing water in the bottom and will not fill up

You most likely have a stubborn clog in your kitchen drain. Try filling the sinks with warm soapy water and then letting the water drain while also turning on your garbage disposal. Sometimes the extra water pressure will help push the clog through.

Neff dishwasher continually draining

Update to my problems. It is now working. I removed the T20 tork screw housing the pump cover which is situated underneath the filter. I used a sponge and siringe to remove all water. And started the dishwasher a few times to spin the pump and flickout any excess water. I noticed some small bits of food which were removed and I cleaned all filters and put it back together. It didnt work staright away but the pump was not comong on as soon as the door was shut anymore. I did a reset and then selected a rinse programme and voila it worked! Tried a full wash cycle last night and it all seemed to be working fine......

Food particles are on dishes after washing

Try adding bicarb of soda/baking soda and vinegar in the detergent dispenser. Bicarb fizzes off hardened particles and vinegar strips off grease and aids rinsing.
