My celestial tv GCBLTV20A-C55 will only tune sbs and no other channels. I press menu then auto tuning then Australia and enter it takes about 15 minutes then only comes back with sbs

Sounds like he accidently put it in parental lock, the remote should have the "key", the user instruction book will have the answer also. Hope this helps

To Tune in Philips Machline TVs
Without using remote. Open panel on front of tv
1-- Press the menu key. --screen will now display 5 menu options--
2--press the down arrow key untill Install is highlighted
3--press the vol + key -- now install options appear (language--autotune---mantune--channel no--store)
4--press the down key to select the function required (Autotune is best) Manual is ok if the tv station's freq are known and they can be then given a ch no
5--press the + key to start the function selected ---tv will auto tune in tv stations when completed
6--press down arrow and highlite store then press ok
7--Press menu to clear menu off screen

I have the 32" version. I found out, accidently that to reset the TV, with the TV on, pull the mains plug slowly, you should hear a pop, leave for 5 mins and plug back in, I won't take any responsability for damage so you will have to do only as last resort. I also found it is a problem with 1st and 2nd generation digital sony's. Mine was "upgraded by sony but to no avail hence the need for a HARD reset. It doesn't actually reset anything, just clears a frozen tuner.

Problem solved!!
According to the Sony website I needed to get a software download in order to fix this problem. I found out how to do this from the manual and realised that the re-tune menu I was looking at was for analogue only. The pictograms onmy remote control are a blurred but the manual helpfully provided a picture showing the correct program "info" button (next to 0) which has options to look at other things, including a "detailed set up" menu on the blue tab, which provides options for software download and re-tune of digital channels.
Incidentally, I discovered that my TV model was not quite as quoted above - it is KD-28DX200U, but expect the same process works for other oldish models.
