SOURCE: TRYING TO REPLACE MY OLD RHEEM WATER HEATER MODEL

I would say your water heater is from the fury series; new model number 82V52-2. I've included a link with my solution that you should take a look at. You could also look at water heaters of a different brand if this one isn't available in your area. Kenmore, GE, and Hotpoint are all very good brands of water heaters.

SOURCE: Need Free Manual for Rheem Electric Hot Water Heater

Here is the link to a manual:

Be sure to have your circuit breaker off before you remove the cover.
220V and water together is not a good mix.

Need manual for model # GE50M06AAG

GE is a Rheem-made product:
Any generic electric water heater manual will work for this heater since it uses same standard wiring, generic parts, and materials used for years to make electric water heaters. Nothing special. Except do not expect many specifics from any Rheem manual pertaining to insulation thickness or comprehensive troubleshooting.

Water heater is not heating water, but it is getting electricity (81V52D C)

I would start by checking the circuit breaker and the reset button if the heater has one just to get the easy possibilities out of the way. Next check the ground wire to may sure the ground wire is firmly connected. Electronics need a complete circuit in order to work. It is always possible that the wires have become corroded or broken. Please test the wiring to insure that all wires are unbroken. Please see the link below for more specific information.

Rheem 50 gallon Electric Water Heater 81V52D C repair ideas needed

It could be element shorted to ground through steel tank, so don't touch tank when breaker is ON.
Or you have undersized 12 gauge wire and 20 amp breaker and the heat has loosened breaker on the busbar. Breaker trips when heat exceeds breaker limit. Jiggle breaker and listen for crackling sound.

To restore hot water now:
Turn off circuit breaker, and open top cover then Push in reset button on top of heater to restore functionality. Put back insulation and factory cover.
To fix water heater: test and replace bad element.

I have a Rheem model number is 81V52D and I think I need to check the thermostat. Do I need to drain the unit in order to check the thermostat?

No you do not need to drain water heater when checking or replacing thermostats:
Water heater is drained when replacing elements or cleaning sediment out of tank.

Also look at following links: These links can teach you everything about fixing ordinary tank-type electric water heater using generic parts from hardware store.

Hello, I have a Rheem 81V52D 50 gal. residential water heater. I had the upper element short out. I replaced both the upper & lower elements with the 4500 watt 230v. My problem now is that the upper...

It's probably bad upper or lower thermostat.
BUT... new element could also be shorted.
OR ... original tank is rated 1500 watt elements look at label on side of tank.
I always replace both thermostats to save time.
Lower thermostat costs $10 at Lowes.
