Black box comes up on tv screen

I have a 32 inch HD widescreen lcd tv/dvd combo (Polaroid) and at certain times, a black box appears on the screen. This seems to only happen on certain channels. Sometimes, it disappears if you turn off the tv and change channels, sometimes it goes away by itself. Yesterday it went away when we muted the tv! Has this happened to anyone else? And, how do you fix it????

The black box is a text box for closed captioning. Some stations send the signal which turns on the box while not actually broadcasting any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off closed captioning, or at least change it to a different mode. The easiest option is to restore factory presets.

Black screen

You may have blown power supply for the backlight inverter or blown backlight inverter board, either one are cheap!,
This is cheaply made TV to begin with. Repiar shop will charge you $200 and up plus parts.

Polaroid HD TV 32" Black square in the center of the screen,

Is your closed caption selected? I saw the same problem with my friend's Sansui HDTV.

When I put a DVD in, it stays on loading for a few minutes and then it says -no disc. I can not use the DVD player. It is a 32" HD Widescreen LCD TV/DVD Combo...TDA-03211C. Thanks.

With the dvd loaders in these particular units the laser tends to fault in them relatively fast. Replace the laser loader assembly, which is the entire assembly containing the laser, the mechanism where the disc slides in and out as well as the small motor that spins the disc. Good Luck.

I have a 32" HD widescreen LCD TV/DVD combo. TDA03211c. When I put a dvd in to play it makes a noise and puts some digital garbage on the screen. Will not play dvds.

Sounds like the DVD player is defective. Just food for thought.. Try not invest in any make with a built in DVD player, they just don't last.

Screen black. polaroid tv 32". have sound TV/DVD Combo TDA-03211C

sounds like inverter board. What it sounds like is happing is your LCD is working ut the backligkt board that allows you to see is kicking off. (as you still have sound) Which could be the (most likely) inverter board, or the power supply board. You can take apart and check for voltage at your power supply. The power supply has a pigtail with large white wires and a connector. Power up with the center back cover off and check your voltage at the white connector on the power supply before and after the screen gos out. If there is no large voltage loss it is your inverter board.

You can used boards on e-bay or
