When faced with the total unavailability of replacement parts, its time to get creative, and make your own diffuser cover. Flat ones
can be easily made - find anything plastic that's semi-translucent (like a plastic milk bottle), and cut it with a utility knife.
I have also used a utility knife to cut a polystyrene diffuser cover
originally intended for a 2-ft x 4-ft suspended ceiling fluorescent light fixture.
In case the diffuser cover you make wants to burn when placed close to a light bulb, replace the bulb with a CFL (compact fluorescent) bulb, which run MUCH cooler than incandescent light bulbs.
Old lampshades can be cut and used, but may need to be ironed flat. The major advantage of lampshade material is that
it can be folded over at the edge once or twice, which will fill space - and possibly hold the cover where a plastic sheet might be too loose.
You'll know that your efforts have met with success when you can easily remove your ne diffuser cover to replace the light bulb.
