My mp3 just turned off and i thought the battery died but when i put a new one in it it stayed off and when i plugged it into my labtop with rio music manager (the program that comes with it ) nothing happend it didnt say idle like usual and it wont turn back on in any way
What worked for me following the inverted battery suggestion above and then, without reinserting the battery, connecting to Forge to my computer. It came back to life and works normally again.

Be careful about taking a piece of metal and wedging it "in there".
There is a circuit board, SD slot contacts, etc., that you could damage.
The goal with the paper clip is to place in in contact with the metal that the 2 ends of the battery touch, thus draining the electricity out of the capacitor. It works for this mp3 player, but dont go wedging metal into *every* thing that does not work without thinking first ;)
Taking the battery out for 20 minutes worked for m
Thought mine was broken so I took out the battery. It's been sitting in my drawer for a few days until I saw this site. Decided to pop the battery back in and was amazed to see it come back to life.

Try inverting the battery for a few seconds, then putting the battery back in the right way. That should clear the capacitors that are holding the unit in a crashed state.
Try removing the battery for a few days. It worked with my husbands rio that did the same thing.
