Car runs but won't go into gear

Car runs great, went to store and now it won't go after putting it into gear. No leaks, full fluid. Sounds like it wants to go but doesn't. Had to have it towed to house. Jacked up and wheels turn when in drive, but stops when put into reverse. Checked fuses and all good. Break lights work. Checked all I know and stumped. Was told maybe the ds axle.

SOURCE: replaced ignition and steering wheel now car wont start -security light on

Hi......
On your Buick 94.
The problem is the ANTI THEFT SYSTEM..
If you have replaced the ignition switch.
If you are using a NEW KEY, the car won't start.
Because in the OLD KEY, is there a Resistence with a number of ohm's
The computer need the resistence to activate the the signals to operate the vehicle.
OK.. with the New Key and Old Key you can go to any Aloha Smith and they will remove the Chip from the Old Key to the New Key.
And the car must start and running.

But if you are using the Same Key that you have before the repair made.
I recomend to check the 2 Orange wires from the Ignition lock Cylinder to the steering column lower connectors.

Ok I hope this work for your problem.
Any moree info, I will glad to help you.
I'm a Mechanic and have all the repair information for all the cars.

Thank you for use fixya...

Run a self test on the computer for any trouble codes that might be stored that will lead us to the problem, Kragen auto and others will do this for free. get back to me on this thread with those codes.

SOURCE: 1997 buick lesabre relay prob

Try replacing the vehicle speed sensor. I don't think it has a speedo relay and the Torque Converter Clutch would not cause this problem.

SOURCE: I first noticed the transmission

IF TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR IS PINK FULL OF BUBBLES EITHER YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSES IT TO CHURN THE FLUID. OR YOU HAVE AIR GETTING IN THE SYSTEM BUT IT SOUND LIKE TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID CIRCUIT OPEN NOT ALLOWING TRANSMISSION GO INTO OVER DRIVE.IF YOU SEE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BEST TO CODE SCAN VECHICLE TO SEE WHAT TROUBLE CODE YOU GETTING.BY TRANSMISSION BEING PCM CONTROLLED BEST TO SCAN BECAUSE TRANSMISSION HAS MANY SHIFT SOLENOIDS.TAKE CAR TO TRANSMISSION SHOP LET THEM CODE SCAN AND CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR.NORMAL FLUID COLOR WOULD BE RED COLOR.

1995 Nissan Altima Stuck in First Gear

1. check transmission fluid level or if you can change the fluid & filter.
2. check throttle position sensor (tps).
3. if fluid level & tps are ok & still not upshifting automatically, temporarily (so you can take it to a transmission specialist) , try to manually shift. starting from dead stop, shift to D1. at about 25mph shift to D2. (be gentle on the accelerator & don't over rev on each gear. release accelerator pedal & don't step on the brakes while shifting from D1 & D2).

Transmission is going in gear every time but the car won't drive every time

Have a look at the automatic transmission fluid.
Under the hood should be 2 long dipsticks, usually they have a colored plastic handle so you can see them more easily.
You will need to identify them, perhaps ask a friend for help.
One dipstick is for motor oil, the other for automatic transmission fluid.
The automatic transmission fluid should be redish in color, that is a dye put in the fluid so you know it is not motor oil.
Check that fluid, your owner's manual in the glove box will tell you whether to warm the eingine up first before you check it.
If the fluid is low, add some with a long funnel, only add a pint at a time, and check it about 5 minutes after you add it.
Repeat this until it shows full.
Car parts stores sell quarts of automatic transmission fluid.
If you pull the dipstick from the transmission and it is not low, and the fluid is clean (not black coloured), you may either have a transmission that has failed, or your brakes may be sticking ( like the emergency brake is on).
Be blessed

Eclipse goes into reverse but wont go in drive.

Friend, start the engine and let it run a few minutes to warm the trans fluid, set the park brake or block the front of the wheels, put the car in drive position and check the transmission fluid. Sounds like it's just too low for the pump to pick up enough for a forward engagement. Reverse doesn't take much to activate the servo. Most automatics are this way. I'm sure you'll find the fluid is way low and needs the proper fluid added. This may mean you have a slight trans fluid leak.

Transmission stop shifting while i was driving

Have you checked your transmission fluid? If you have a leak and run too low, you won't have enough to operate the hydraulic valves and pistons used for shifting. Also, if the fluid is dirty or broken down, the mechanism could be hanging up or worn out from debris and lack of proper lubrication.

My 2001 ford taurus will not move at all with car on. Can place in all gear & still will not move a inch. What has happen

with the engine running,in park, open the hood. pull the transmission dipstick, located on passengers side, just below the windsheild.the handle may be red,or yellow.pull the dipstick out and read it.the fluid level should always be in the crosshairs or XXXXXX's it has a full reading, at the top of theXXXXX's but only while the engines running and motors warm. it [the dipstick has a cold reading, but more acurate when read warm, and in PARK. always use FOMOCO transmission fluid when adding transmission fluid to your car. that means ford motor company fluid only.[fomoco] is it leaking fluid at all? do you see red fluid anywhere that you park the car? if so,then you have either a bad front or rear transmission seal. either ones a better thing than a bad transmission ,sounds like you're just low on fluid, but i got to ask where the fluid leaked or where it went? suggest that you check for leaks. you may add fluid to your transmission and it moves, but be alert, look for a leak somewhere.thank you for choosing fixya.com
