Epson 1280 ink carriage making noise and not printing

I had a paper jam that I think knocked the ink carriage out of position. Now the carriage makes alot of noise and does not print anything even though the ink carriage is moving. Any suggestions?

The carriage is attached to a rod. How do you re- seat it?

The black ink smears and /or double prints initial letter in a line. Printing a color picture black smears in lines. The reverse side of the print has black lines. It is making noise as the carraige goes back and forth. I did reset the black and color inks; no change.

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Examine the belt that powers the print head, see if it is excessively sloppy, check the head moves freely along the print head bar, if it snags, there is damage to the bar or the print head holder is worn

TBH, I'd bury it if there is any wear as replacement parts are expensive compared to a new printer

I have an epson stylus cx6000, after I put in a new ink cartiage it started making a loud grinding noise an now it won't print.

Sounds like a cartridge jam. Remove the cartridges and look at the carriage path. Make sure there is no paper or anything else in the way.

During startup the drive belt slips and gives an error

Open the printer's door and look for the print carriage. It's the platform that moves back and forth over the paper, probably where you put new cartridges. Unplug the printer, and check this belt and its pulleys to see if it's either broken or possibly covered in ink. The drive belt will be black and have gear teeth on it. If you see a metal or plastic ribbon, that's more likely the encoder that let's the printer's computer read the position of the carriage. See if you can nudge the carriage and make it move a little; it may simply be jammed. Check the carriage's moving path and make sure it's not obstructed. Any other problems would probably best be handled by Epson.

Paper jam

Some of the Ink Jets have a cover in the back of the printer that you have to turn a lock to remove and you could have some paper stuck back there.

Epson R320 carriage jammed

The ink cartridge is probably not inserted correctly.  Unplug the printer and manually move the carriage to a location where you can take the ink cartridge out.

Remove it and reinsert it, making sure that it is fully located, before applying the power.

Make sure that there is nothing blocking the carriage movement, such as some remnant of paper.
