14.5 horse I/C ohv with oil

Went to look at and possible purchase a John Deere sabre tonight with a briggs and stratton 14.5 OHV I/C. Mower started right up, drove around the yard for a little while then it died with a big puff of blueish white smoke. Started the mower again and it smoked right away but cleared up after a minute or so. Started driving around the yard again and after a minute or two the engine died again with the smoke. Removed the air filter and atarted the mower again and let it run at full throttle, when the mower died again there was fuel and oil mixed coming from the crankcase breather and going into the carb causing it to flood and die. Is this a simple fix or does the motor need new rings/ rebuild?

if the engine is a briggs and Stratton then check the valve clearance as B&S engines have a history of the valve stems stretching early in use and when hot hold the valve partially open until cooled down

27 horse power briggs on poulan pro. It smokes,

Very likely, the piston rings are badly worn or stuck. There may even be a small hole in a piston. In any case, you will need a major tear-down to repair this one. This is usually caused by lax oil-changes. It might be better to purchase a replacement engine than try to fix everything that could be wrong with the present unit if you take into account parts and labor. Hope this helps!

Changing oil in Biggs and Stratton engine

Use 10W30 weight oil. The capacity is 1.5 Quarts (48 ounces) with filter change. I highly recommend you use 100% synthetic oil in an air cooled engine. Change the oil and filter every 50 hours of use.

Briggs and Stratton 22hp v twin OHV smoking badly

First thing to do is pull your dipstick and check for broken or missing O-ring also as you pull it, look to make certain that it was seated properly and all the way locked. If either condition exists, you will be leaking into the crankcase which will cause your symptoms
