It sounds like a motherboard sound chip failure, although run a diagnostics on the sound, click Start>run, then type 'dxdiag', hit 'Enter' and run sound driver test.
If it has failed, you can purchase a cheap PCI slot souncard and dissable your onboard sound, or a complete new motherboard.
