The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:
1.) Your charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.
2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.
3.) Your battery is faulty.
I think possibility 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test possibility 3 by removing the battery and plugging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.If it does power on then that rules out possibility 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.
When this happens, you may be dealing with a power adapter that has gone bad. Check to see if it's putting out the required voltage ~18-19 volts. You could be dealing with a broken DC-in jack. This can be fixed, but with difficulty (it involves soldering on the motherboard. You might have to replace the motherboard. First try to start the computer with the adapter connected, but the batter taken out. If it starts and works, then it's a bad battery.
1. Take the battery out. Start the computer with just electric. Is it dependable? If so, replace battery.
2. After leaving it plugged in 4 hrs (good outlet). Un plug it and try to use it. Failure indicates battery failed to charge. If test #1 passed replace battery.
try a simple power cycle. Take out the battery, leave power adapter plugged in. Hold down the power button for about one minute. Then hit the power button normally this should correct the problem
I had a similar issue with the Armada M700 from Compaq. Never did figure it out exactly. But I do know this. When you unplug the power chord and take out the battery and plug the power chord back in while the battery is out usually for some reason it turned on allowing me to replace the battery which would then begin charging. Your problem interests me because I can really relate!
Chosenone,
Even though the battery meter shows it fully charged I doubt it?s correct. Over time rechargeable batteries loose their ability to store power. How long depends on the battery manufacturer and how well you treat it but you can consider yourself fortunate if your battery lasts three or four years.
Beware of people who suggest you take apart your batter to bypass the safeties or replace old battery cells. Defective or improperly handled batteries can overheat and cause fires when you least expect them.
