All of a sudden my computer does not "see" my dvd drive. When i go to device manager, this is the message: Toshiba DVDW/HD TS-L802A ATA Device. Windows cannot load the device for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39) I next tried to update the driver, but it says that I have the latest driver. I then tried to plug in via USB an external DVD drive...my computer won't see that either, but it sees any other device that i plug in via the usb ports. what gives, I am lost here?????

    restore system did not work and I don't know how to take my laptop apart to disconnect the dvd drive. Anyways, if that would work, wouldn't the NEW external dvd drive that i bought and tried to plug in via USB be seen? It isn't seen either by the computer, even though anything else i plug in via USB (camera, video camera, printer) ARE seen.

    Help!

  • saintkelley Nov 28, 2008

    it looks like i can't restore to an acceptable date because it will only let me restore to about 5 days ago and my problem has existed for about 10 days.

  • saintkelley Nov 28, 2008

    Go to the Device Manager > Right Click on the Toshiba DVD then select properties. Go to Driver tab and click on Roll-back driver.

    When i do the above, the roll-back driver option is greyed out and will not let me click on it. When I click update driver, it says that i already have the latest driver

The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).

A driver for this device was not required, and has been turned off (Code 32 or Code 31).
Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)

The most frustrating part is I have had several Toshiba customers call me about having this issue on brand new laptops. The good news is it is a simple fix that anyone can do.
First lets confirm your issue. Right click on “Computer” or “My Computer” in XP. Select Manage and then on the right side select device manager. On the left if you see a yellow exclamation mark next to your drive and were getting any of the above error codes then we have a simple fix.
Go ahead and right click on the CD or DVD drive that has a yellow exclamation mark next to it and select delete or remove.

For Vista click the windows “start” button on the bottom left and in the search box type regedit . You will be asked to confirm your admin account. Just hit next or continue.
Now browse to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
It’s just like browsing through folders so don’t worry about it. if you get lost just start over. BE SURE you follow the path 100% There are many similar files and folders so double check they all match up.

Now that you are at the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Folder on the right side you will see several entries. right Click and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters. These will be remade once you reboot.

Go to the Device Manager > Right Click on the Toshiba DVD then select properties. Go to Driver tab and click on Roll-back driver.

Also, when you tried to update the driver of your DVD, use the option to "Install it Automatically (Recommended)" so that the computer will look for the drivers that is saved on your OS.

  • Anonymous Nov 28, 2008

    Try removing the Toshiba DVD on the Device Manager, then Click on Action then Select "Scan for Hardware Changes". Try reinstalling the driver. Make sure to do it Automatically since no drivers are needed for the DVD.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

    The posted link would likewise work for Vista, just tried it. Incidentally, should you want to manually perform the fix:

        click on the start menu;

        in the search box type in “regedit” less the quotes;

        expand the HKLM and go to the registry key as above listed;

        locate in the right panel “UpperFilter” and “LowerFilter”;

        click on each “filter” key and hit delete;

        click yes when asked to confirm if you wish to delete the key.

        Restart Windows.
    Would appreciate further updates.

    Toshiba DVDW/HD TS-L802A ATA does not require any driver, and you are the second person today with same problem. This let me think that the problem can be a virus.

    Try first following instructions here.

    If that does not work do a system restore to a date before having the problem.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Nov 28, 2008

    You need to change some of the entries on the registry system, if you do not trust doing it yourself call a local technician.

    Here is the solution for this problem (already published): follow instructions here.

    If you cannot do it yourself call a tech, but that is what must be done first.

    I am getting tired right now,

    You need to do this first, and then we can proceed:

    To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:

        Click Start

        Collapse this imageExpand this image, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

        Collapse this imageExpand this image If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

        Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution
        There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in
        step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry
        subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values.
        To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure
        that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is
        CDROM.

        In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.

        Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.

        In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.

        Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.

        Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
    If that does not work there are more steps, but that should fix it.

    If you do not want or cannot do it, call a technitian, and that is all.

    Goodbye

    You need to install the latest driver for your device...
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/f...

    official bits from microsoft:
    Code 39
    Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
    Recommended resolution

    Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupted; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.

    Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

    On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

    Personal note:
    Microsoft generally uses a standard driver for all hard drives, so if the procedure doesn't solve the problem, try running chkdsk on the drive.
    Open my computer, right click on the drive and select properties. Go to the tools tab and click check now under error checking. Choose both options. When you restart, chkdsk will run and try to correct errors on the drive.

K i have a toshba dvdw/hd ts-l802a ata driver 39 issue i have uninstalled reinstalled and to no avail ive been looking for a driver all morning and i cant find one it says that its corrupted or missing...

Have you uninstalled and then rebooted? It may sound an odd question, but if you do not reboot, then all of the associated data is not removed.

Once rebooted, let the system identify New Hardware and then follow the on screen instructions.

Hope that helps

BURN FAIL ERROR CODE

I suppose that you have a DVD writer or a HD DVD drive installed by default. I am having the same problems on an Aspire 5920 G with a HDDVD Toshiba and the problem is because of mister Bill Gated and windows vista... the drivers for DVD RW and HD DVDs are all messed up in vista and they enter in conflict with those from the burn program. ERROR 204 corresponds with "POWER CALLIBRATION ERROR" witch means that the beam could not be centered on the row it was writing or that the beam could not write on the disc. You can try a google search for youre dryve type firmware and upgrade it. To find youre drive tipe go to device manager DVD/CDrom drives and copy the name of the device (eg: if it is TOSHIBA DVDW/HD TS-L802A ATA Device search for "TOSHIBA TS-L802A firmware" on the web and upgrade the firmware to the newest on the market). Alternatively you could install windows XP and vurn from XP and you will not experience any problems

Toshiba dvdw/hd ts-l802a double layer dvd burner will not burn dl dvd's, laptop Acer Aspire P920G, win Vista premium

I have the same toshiba burner. You should manually assign a right sector number to a so-called break point between layers of a DVD9, in order to start burning, or to burn successfully with this Toshiba. This requires profound knowledge, and special progs to use. "Imgburn" (freeware) is one of a few.
