Has it ever printed correctly or did it just start malfunctioning?
Is it connected via LPT, USB, or Ethernet?
Do you have the HP Toolbox intalled on Ubuntu? If not, it can be found in the Synaptic Package Manager.

I'm suspecting there issue with the post-script format... (e.g. RAW format) But it could be many things; need more info.

This is the open source website for HP Linux Printing:

    hplip.sourceforge.net

HP also has a support hotline for linux:

    888 - HP - LINUX

I have one problem with hp laserjet P4014n printing all paper black. the background is black all but word are showing can someone help me in this

If your background is "Black" it's going to print it all black, change your background color to "Gray" and your machine will then print a gray background instead of black. Also note that when you print a black background your toner life expectancy will be no where your expected yield ratio is. Average yield is 5% for X (X meaning size of cartridge) amount of printed pages. If your printing a black background your utilizing 100% yield coverage. Not sure if this is the answer your looking for. However basic black and white printing with a black background will print the page completely black.

Prints pdfs with a red background

Hi,
maybe your pdfs are WITH some kind of background and the printer just print it. If you want to print black and white, you have to tell this in printer driver menu, and then there will be NO red background.

Shadow print from 2200d laser printer

This shadow, or backgrounding, is generally caused by excess debris remaining on the drum. This is mostly caused by the wiper blade not dislodging all the waste toner. You will need to replace the cartridge (C4096A).
