Is there any pictures, diagrams or detail instructions how to remove the doggets spline from inside the agitator??

  • fish10 Nov 30, 2008

Did get the agitator off with no problems, on this ge unit all you have to do is pull up. The spline itself is ok. Cannot get the coupling out of the agitator. 20 Years old. The coupling is worn inside only thing left is the top grooves none inside. Was able to order a complete agitator with coupling already assemble. Best price was from A-1 Appliance parts and the next best price was acturally directly from GE. Thanks for the help. A-1 applicance also has a great link to free repair manual with a pix. Trouble is the coupler is so old. Glad I found one already assemble in the agitartor

Old top load Whirl pool. Over 10+ years old. Does not agitate. Everything else seems fine. The bottom part agitates (the part that spreads out over the bottom.....but not the rest. Pushed down on agitator during wash cycle but nothing happens. What else can I do?

My washer is about 10 years old and the agitator does not work. It fills up and spins. I tried to take it apart, but only see 4 plastic knobs inside the top part of the agitator. I am thinking somethink might be stuck down in it, not sure.

To check the agitator. Start the washer into wash cycle. Once started Push down on top of agitator. If it catches some times or all of the time when pushing down, then then doggets are worn, under the agitator. You`ll have to remove the agitator to see these. If by pushing down on the agitator, nothing changes, Then you probably have a transmition problem. Check this and let me know what you find.

I don`t have a pic I can send you. Tried to find a diagram but unable to. There should be a bolt head under the cap on top of the agitator. Losen this bolt. You should be able to remove the agitator now. Sometimes they are hard to get off. On top of the spline, inside of the agitator the is a agitator coupling. Check this for ware and also check the spline. My guess is the agitator coupling is bad. Replacing the coupling and agitator are pretty much in reverse. Let me know if you have any trouble.

GE washer approx 20 yrs old..will fill up but this morning will not wash. It will empty the water though. I've been also having problems with it lately with regards to not spinning fully and have had to reset to spin after each wash cycle.
Please also provide quote on repairs and whether better to buy new versus repairs.
Thanks so much!!!

My GE top load washer is about 5 months old. It fills up and runs through the agitation cycle but then stops at the end spin cycle. The clothes just sit in the water. I checked the hose for kinks and...

I have had this problem with two of my previous washers a top loader and front loader. Each time it was a faulty pump that drains the water from the tub after the wash cycle is complete. If the water does not drain from the tub the machine will not go to the spin cycle. Both of my washers were 5 or 6 years old when this occurred. If the washer is only 5 months old it should be under the manufactures warranty. Good Luck.

Washer will fill and drain but not agitate

Check the lid switch if it is a top loader.

Does not agitate or spin

Let me make sure I hear your symtoms right..

The washer fills...sound like the motor is running but it doesn't agitate or spin.. then when it tries to drain it bascially gravity feeds out until there is no longer enough water to force it out?

Sounds like the belt is off, or broken.. I am not all that familiar with your model, but I think most GE's are belt drive.

If it were the agitator coupler, the washer would probably still drain..

Pull the front cover off of the washer, you will see the belt and pulleys, make sure it is A: still on the pulleys, and B: tight.

If not, loosen the four bolts on the moter, put the belt on and then slide the motor towards the rear to tighten it.. then tighten the four bolts. They may simply have not tightened the bolts on the motor from factory and the motor slid back loosening the drive belt.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Maytag washer, model: LAT8415AAE top loader. Washer fills with water but will not start agitating, spin or drain.

Check lid switch. Most will not run with lid open and the switch may not be pressed down when door is closed

GE top loader not agitating

Your agitator splines are probably stripped out.
Remove the agitator and check the spline grooves. And the agitator coupling on the shaft.

Washer won't drain or spin

top loader ??? or front loader??? if top loader you have broken your lid switch, will fill, agitate, but when it comes to drain/spin for safety reasons if the unit doent recognize the lid closed it will not advance...if yo have a front loader then i would suspect that something has gotten into the pump assy and preventing drainiing of water therefore will not spin
