Stopped running I am having problems with my 1911, roughly 5 years old, it just stopped working. I sent it in and was told it needed an overhaul, it was gummed up from the lubricant etc and was told that that needed to be done every 3 to 5 years. I told what are you kidding me at 560.00 repair cost.I told them that I have a tissot automatic that is almost 30 years old and never needed service, and that the price I paid for this most beautiful watch, almost 5 grand, it should be almost bullet proof. has anyone had similar problems? Let me tell you that the ebel 1911 chrono has the ebel calibre 137, based on Zenith El Primero 400, which beats at 36600 bph. Most watches beat at 21600 bph or 28800 bph. Zenith EL Primero is the one which more beats in the watch world and its truly a gem. You should have of course sent it out to servicing 3 years ago. Watches like this suffer more than other mechanical watches. I am not surprised that they asked 560 usd for a repairing service. Even lower automatic chrono watches like the hamilton or tissot chronos with eta 7750 do have expensive servicing too, about 250 usd.. Read more about watch servicing and you will know more about your watches care. Dont you replace your car tires after some miles? Why dont you service your watch then? Best Regards Manuel

Unfortunately watch service is often calculated based on the value of the watch, as insurance, and quality/cost of materials and spares and tools are factors. With the correct lubricant there should be no reason why a quality watch should need that particular job done so regularly, but a 4/5-yearly service is not a bad idea at all, as most problems with this sort of watch can be avoided with regular maintenance. Hope this helps :)

My tag heuer is starting to run slow

If it's 5 years or older it's time for an overhaul. Make sure that they are going to replace the mainspring when doing the overhaul. So many repair shops do not do this simple task. It requires them to tear the watch down all of the way.

Self whinder starts then stops after a couple of seconds ???

If you have had it for a good while, it probably needs a cleaning. And a little lube to keep it ticking.

Why would a tissot t-touch need an overhaul to replace a dead battery

These babies are notorious for going down the tubes with a battery change. I bet if you get it back it won't work with a new battery. Twice I have replaced batteries and the watch didn't work when I finished. One of them was my own watch, I think $450 is about half the price of a new watch and that is sad. Cool watch just not very long life

Hi, I've got a automatic tag aquaracer watch that loses about 4 mins every month (about 4 yrs old). Common problem? Can this be fixed ? Or is it a lemon of a watch? Any advice welcome. Cheers.

If it's automatic and 4 years old, it's probably time for a watch overhaul. Auotmatic watches need overhauled about once every 4-5 years. It's normal for it to lose time, but 4 minutes per month may be a little extreme. So, get the watch overhauled. I would recommend Tag Heuer to overhaul it.

My Ebel woman's wave watch just stopped working. I bought it Aug 2009 and I have a 5 year guarantee- the only problem is I live in Israel so should I wait until I visit the US or is there an official...

You do not need to go to US for watch repair. Follow this link: http://www.ebel.com/#/en/ On the right bottom side of the screen click on store locator. Now click on Middle East and Africa, then click on Israel. Choose the city (or nearest to you). Use the phone or email address to get in touch and clarify with EBEL your problem. Rate me, please.

My watch is running slow and I have replaced the battery

Not knowing the model or make I would say it will need to be sent to watchmaker for an overhaul/clean/ oil/ adjust. I dont know how old your watch is,either. Most watches have 1-2 year movement warranty.

Ebel voyager automatic stopped needs replacement balance staff

An automatic watch can have many of the same issues as a wind up because that is what it is essentially. This means that you could have a main spring issue or standard maintenance issue. The watch should be overhauled and oiled about every 4-5 years.

Tag heuer carrera - does not work timely !!!

There is no reason to panic. Your watch needs overhaul. Find your nearest watch repairer and ask to do the job. He will be able to tell you if there are any mechanical faults.
I do not think there are any and your watch will tick as brand new after overhauling it.
Mechanical watches needs overhaul every 5-7 years.

Rolex watch stops only when I wear it

Kristy,
Stress won't affect your watch's timekeeping ability, but position will. When you lay the watch down at night, in which position is it? Also, during the day, is your arm in a static position for long periods of time? A Rolex chronometer (like the Datejust) should run approx. 36 hours after being fully wound -- without any movement. If the watch stops dead, then there is a problem with the movement and/or rotor. If it losses time, I'd bet on a static position problem. Let me know the answers to those questions and I'll try to help you get to the bottom of the problem.
