This has started to happen over the last few days, the whining and waubiling comes and goes. It is fine at the moment, but I know that it will come back. I have had this logitech Z-2300, for eighteen months.
This is more likely a problem with your sound card than the speakers themselves. Next time it happens, try plugging in some headphones or other speakers into the same port on the computer. Most computer hardware is not designed for good ground isolation and digital artifacts can come through.
The other likely answer is a problem with the cables. Try wiggling the cables, especially near either end, and see if you can find a spot that makes the sound come and go. If there's a break in ground at a connector, or a short to ground in the cable, that can also cause unpleasant distortion in the speakers.

SOURCE: My logitech z 2300 subwoofer is not producing sound
Since this set is hardwired together and the other speakers are working, the only easy fix would be the subwoofer got turned down on the remote volume control. Anything more would mean its broken. If its under warranty take it back. If its not and you know somebody capable, you might have them check for the obvious, bad solder connections on speaker, or and open voice coil on the speaker it self.

I have a top sound Card set up, M-Audio, so I am sure that it is not that.
I found that ther was no issues when using headphones.
So I have decided to get a new set up, although the problem has gone, I am sure that it will return.
I will keep the old set up as a spare.
Thanks for you help in this matter.
