Remove and check color cartridge

My HP 2610 is a little over a year old. It just started giving the message "Remove and check color cartridge". I have cleaned the contacts with alcohol and a Q-tip. I have tried one new 97 and one new 95 cartridge and one half ful 95 cartridge that was working fine in another printer. The message is persistent and the printer will not work.

I have also the same problem as Yane and have done the same remedial measures to solve the problem but to no avail. This did not happen when I changed my black ink cartridge. It only happened after I changed my tricolor catridge which I have not changed since I bought my printer. I noticed that the wire, which I believe secures the cartridge, is not in place. Apparently one of its plastic locks securing it in place has broken so everytime I push the cartridge in, it gets out of place. I also noticed that there are some very tiny puncture marks on the thin wirings on the carriage contact in the carriage assembly. This may have been caused by the wire that has gone out of place. I am not sure whether this has caused damage to the carriage contact thereby causing these error messages. I would greatly appreciate getting some help on this. Thanks in advance.

Yes I have got that problem too. If I unplug the printer and try to print again it might print with all colors quite correct, but if I try once more it falis with the same "Remove an check...." again, and again...
The ink is about 50% in the color cartridge. If I even could move the color cartridge out and print b/w, but it seems also impossible to mee. I always talk positive about HP-printers and ther good working hplip-drivers, but this makes me crazy....

Same problem but all my wires are in place and the cartridges are brand new. HP support gave me a bunch of things to try but nothing is working yet. Sometimes it thinks it's print but there is nothing on the paper.

    Any ideas?

Try this. worked for me. when installing the cartridge, put one finger under the cartridge and hold upward pressure as you closed the green plastic cover. problem is the pins on the cartridge and the pins on the printer are not aligning properly by relying on the spring to do it. this will help to align the pins and should make it work.

Finally I happend to take both cartridges out and cleaned them both (black and color)
NOW it has succeded to print 3 times stright ahed. It seems that it was the rather dirty black cartridge that actually was the problem, but the printer said it was the color cartridge..?? Something wrong in the error message system in the printer?

I, too, am getting the cartirudge error (mine is for the black side) and I am unable to proceed past that message. I do see the broken tab which aligns the metal spring inside the plastic cartridge holder, so the spring is hanging. I suspect that this is the problem (I think I may have done that when I attempted to put the color cartidge in the wrong side in error?). Anyway, does anyone know where I can find a repair manual for the HP 2610 and where I can get the part to fix this?
THANKS!
Doug

Did you clean deep inside where the cartrigge sits with a proper cleaning solution made for pc's and q- tip. A clog can take more than one clean sometimes. Also, the error message could be a drver error issue, from amny causes including spyware. Try running antispyware if attatched to pc and not standalone unit. Also try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

SOURCE: Remove and check color cartridge

the problem is the little poorly designed metal thing that is holding up the ink cartridge get's stuck between the cartridge and the printed circuit and it brakes the circuit.must have been some **** drawering on a napkin that came up with that one.wasted a nice unit for that two cent piece of metal.

What to look for when it keeps saying ... Error .... Remove and check color Cartridge?

I suggest you run the 'Tap 10' diagnostic test pattern for your HP PS 2600 series printer model...this will display the electrical health of the ink cartridges and confirm that your printer is operational (I am guessing one of the ink cartridge control lines is open).

Hello Cliff, welcome to FixYa.

Hard Reset the printer by doing the following:
  • Remove all the ink cartridges.
  • While the printer in ON, unplugged the power cable from the power source.
  • Disconnect the USB cable at the back of the printer (if your printer is connected through a USB cable)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Connect back the USB cable.
  • Plug the power cable to its power source.
  • Turn ON the printer if it does not turn ON automatically.
  • Install the ink cartridges.
  • If the printer prompts for an print head alignment, please do so.

If the problem persists, replace the ink cartridge. The cartridge might be defective since you already have tried to clean the contacts.

Keep me posted.

I have a HP 8259 printer and it indicates the yellow print cartridge needs to be replaced even when i install a new cartridge. It will not let me print in color or black/grayscale. I have had the printer...

Older printers can do funny things. It is probable that the little copper contacts on the ink cartridge are not making good contact with the printer which is giving bad information to the computer that the ink cartridge is empty. A two year old printer may have some corrosion on the printer's contacts. Remove the ink cartridge and use a soft pencil eraser to clean the printer's contacts.

My HP Photosmart 2610 All in One has an error message reading "Remove and check cartridge on the right." I did it three times and there was nothing wrong. Any ideas?

IT seems to be fairly common issue with HP printers.

Try this:
Remove the power cable from the back of the machine. Wait 30 seconds. Press and hold the POWER button on the front panel.

Reinsert the power cable in the backside of the unit.

Print a test page. If the problem persists, replace the cartridge.

These printers have a cartridge check feature. If it detects cartridge contact problems such as dirt, dust or oil on a contact, it will give warnings so the user can correct them by properly seating the cartridge and/or cleaning the contacts.

Says to remove and check color ink cartridge

Take out cartridge and clean the contacts. On the printer and on the cartridge. Mine did that and there was a speck of ink where the cartridge meets the printer contact. Actually, it was a defective cartridge.

Hi Lapidary,
The contacts in the printer could be dirty. Where the cartridge fits in , there should be some copper contact points. Remove the colour cartridge and pull the power. Use some alcohol and clean the contacts (and also those on the cartridge just in case). Give it a few moments for the alcohol to dry. Put in the cartridge and turn on printer.

Remove and check color cartridge

I cleaned mine with alcohol and Q-tip and then shook it 25 times to insure that the ink was penetrating the application lines. My hunch is it first got dirty, and then dried up on the exterior prevent additional ink from leaving the cartridge.
