Sky Prodigy does not have you align on stars but self aligns on images from the mount's camera (much like satellites do to orient), so ignore any incorrect suggestions about picking alignment stars, centering them, moving axes, entering correct dates or info. You should just turn it on and it figures everything out in 10 or so minutes alone.

Thiscode is likely a hand controller failure and you need to call Celestron. Mine did this too. good luck, you will need it...

This error is caused by an error in the Motor Control board. If you hit enter the error goes away, and you will find that you cannot move the telescope in the azimuth axis. If you go to the software versions page (menu / utilities / versions) it will read something like this:

starsense HC
Ver: 01.03.1140
Bld: May 20 2011
16:38:42
Starsense Camera
Ver: 01.01.1123
Motor Control
Mdl: Sky Prodigy
Azm Ver: 255.2
Alt Ver: 6.16

The only way to fix it is to replace the board, or reprogram the controller IC. I used a PIC Kit 3 to do this. The controller has two PICs for Azm and Alt the programs are the same, but the eeprom settings are different. Upon reprogramming the PIC functions normally but unfortunately has no stops any more. (maybe fixed after more testing). It seems a setting is required for enabling the limit switches.

To fix the limit switch issue, you just need to move it with the remote to the limits on each axis to re-teach it.

Hi Euan. I know that you answered this a while ago, but would it be possible to get the HEX file you exported?

Be sure that the Azimuth Axis is Lock, you migth want to try and move the telescope in the Azimuth to make sure it is it is locked. Be carful not to force it. I have seen on some post where the locking part of the Azimuth somtimes breaks. and the Azimuth Axis will just spin freely Locked down or not.

SOURCE: i use sky align, it says successful, but will not

Did you tain the mount? Is the mount level? Did you center both alignment stars?

Read through this web site:

You should return the scope under warranty-- however a bad power supply-- and or a bad hand controller cable can cause these symptoms called a "runaway slew".

Get a separate 12 volt power supply and the proper cigarette lighter style power plug.

Reset the hand controller and reload the firmware. You will need a special cable available from Celestron to load the firmware. The software is available for free on the Celestron web site.

We just set up our telescope and can't see anything. We do have the cover off, have used all the eye pieces but it's dark. Kinda feel like a dope but obviously we're missing something. ...

Start by using it during the day pointing at a nearby object (100yds or so) Start by sighting along the axis of the scope. Use the lowest power (highest number in mm) eyepiece. (BTW the eyepiece is in the front of the scope where the light comes in and this will be the part of the scope that is closest to the object) Once you can see the object, move to the higher power eyepiece to center on the object and then align the led pointer so the red dot is also centered on the object.
After this initial alignment, pick a night that the moon is out and try it.
Note: The 114 shows correct image (right side up and left to right) unlike most other scopes. It is a nice telescope/ ( I have the 130mm)

I have an astromaster 70 and im not really seeing anything interesting, just stars a little closer, i was told i could see jupiters moons but i cant really see anything

You need to attend a local star party by a local Astronomy club and get the members to help you.

Download this free monthly star chart:

Jupiter is not up in the sky right now, during the evening-- however Saturn is up. All the planets follow the ECLIPTIC path across the sky-- the same path the sun followed during the day time.

Objects in the night sky are VERY SMALL-- smaller than the tip of your finger held at arm's length. Tonight try to find M42 the Orion Nebula, and M45 the Pleiades star cluster. See the sky map above.

Any tips for aligning the scope and finderscope. I'm finding it quite difficult to do.

Go outside during the day time and line up the top of a telephone pole in the distance in the MAIN telescope eyepiece.

Then without moving the telescope align the small finderscope on the exact same target.

The hand control isn't working properly. Haven't used the telescope for 12 months. I have replaced the batteries. When I try to align to a star or other object, the direction buttons only work in one...

First thing to do is to buy a new hand controller cable from Meade, If this does not correct the problem then either the hand controller is defective, or something is broken inside the scope.

Cables are not expensive, call Celestron:
