Intuit QuickBooks: Pro 2005 for PC Logo
Posted on Nov 26, 2008

I have a company in Quickbooks Pro 2005 that I cannot reopen. The password won't work. I'm the administrator and the password that I usually use simply doesn't do it. I need to reset this company password so that I can finish the work for my client today. Intuit won't support Pro 2005 anymore. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

Good morning, my name is Karin.
To solve this, first be sure that you don't have the Cap lock on and retry the ID and password.
If that isn't the problem and you still can't open the file, QuickBooks offers a password reset at their website if you have a current backup. The page walks you through the process step by step. You will need to have your license number and also you need to verify that your contact information is on file with them.
Here is the link for the 2005 and earlier password removal:

Hopefully you have a current backup of the company - that is what they will use to remove the password.

Quick books won't print

Could be from several issues.
Try locating the file named qbprint.qpb, and renaming it to oldqbprint.qpb. Then reopen QuickBooks and try again.

Hello I am not able yto get into quickbooks

Hi,

If you were able to open the Quickbooks before then you can try these steps:

Run reboot.bat to register QuickBooks files in Microsoft Windows:
  1. Open the folder containing the reboot.bat file:
    • Windows 7 or Vista: Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Open file location.
    • Window XP:
      1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Properties.
      2. Click Find Target.
  2. Double-click the reboot.bat file.
  3. Restart the computer - Reopen Quickbooks.
If these would not work:
You have to reinstall Quickbooks.

Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

Printer suddenly stopped working with quickbooks but will still work with all other programs. window states: change port assignments or reinstall software. printer is hooked up wirelessly

Hi there,

  1. Open the QuickBooks sample company and try to print the same form or type of form. If it prints successfully, your company data, form template, or customized report may be damaged.
  2. Reopen your company file and try to print an uncustomized (standard/default) form template or non-memorized report. If the issue occurs again, refer to Verifying and rebuilding the QuickBooks company data and then attempt to print again.
  3. If you were printing a batch of forms in QuickBooks, attempt to print a single form. If successful, try printing smaller batches.
  4. If you were able to print from QuickBooks in the past from this company file:
  5. Turn off the printer, restart your computer, and then turn the printer back on.
  6. In QuickBooks, choose File > Printer Setup and check the printer settings for the specific form you're trying to print.
  7. Click Help in this area for more detailed instructions on these settings.
  8. Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers for your printer. Go to the manufacturer's website to download and install the most current drivers.
  9. Replace the QuickBooks Qbprint.qbp file:
  10. Close QuickBooks.
  11. Rename the qbprint.qbp file.
  12. Open QuickBooks and attempt to print again.
  13. If the issue persists, repair the QuickBooks installation.

Unable to retrieve company file after closing it

You probably opened an old file. You will need to find the current file that you were using. Use the search and search for all files ending in .QBW
Check the dates they were last used (you don't want the one with the most current date since that was the old file that was opened.)

My QB crashes everytime I try to invoice...only with one company, but with others it runs fine. Problem is i need the giles from that one company, What do I do?

You should verify your data file (Click on file, click on utilities, click on verify data) If quickbooks doesn't find any problems, Back up your company to a different location and if your using 2006 or higher, create a portable file, close quickbooks, reopen quickbooks, and then click on open portable. When it prompts you to backup, click ok and back up again using a different file name.
You then need to go to templates, and (sorry to tell you this ) change each one to the default setting (click on lists, click on templates, the click on templates at the bottom, and click on edit, click on additional customization and then default. Then click save and close. Do this for all templates.
Also resort each list (item customer and vendor) to their original order.

Close the file and then reopen and verify data - if this doesn't fix the problem you will need to contact a pro advisor or intuit for aid in fixing the file

Launch Quickbooks pro 2005 for first time with error

This usually indicates a bad registry in windows, where the admin accounts are damaged. You can try creating a new user with admin rights. If the problem persists, you will probably need to do a system recover on the laptop, setting it back to factory specifications.
Backup any data you want to save first.
